At least he didn't call them with the offense at the goal line like he once used to... (That's an improvement, I'd say...)
So you are saying Jets D need a total overhaul sans the DL (which was my original post.) Your point? I mean, look. This is not about how good this player is or that player is. The point is that, 1. Offense has more talented players than the defense. 2. Yet the offense keeps failing to produce. 3. Schottenheimer hate comes from there. I just raised the personnel issue with the defense to show you how much of an overhaul the defense needs. What is so hard to understand? Are you people devoid of the ability to 'read and understand'?
Pettine is not at fault. We have way too little speed at many key positions on defense, and Eric Smith is the worst safety in the NFL.
The 1st shotgun play really was awful, even by Schotty's standards. The Eagles had to know we weren't going shotgun to take a shot downfield as a play action would have been how we'd have done that. Which left a QB draw (in midfield - which'd be crazy even for Schotty) or a screen (the thing we've been doing so well recently). We'd have been as well with a big neon sign saying SCREEN PASS COMING UP!!! But, whilst I thought it was a poor game from Schotty, he's about 10th in the list of people to blame.
seriously, its like he just makes a couple plays out of each formation and calls it a day. why cant we pass out of the i? send a back on a flat, a te and 2 recievers. every single team does this. jets run out of certain formations, and throw out of others and it is so goddamn obvious to defenses that it is like watching a game of madden.
fuck remember when announcers used to talk tons of shit about how the formations always give away run, and any time the jet back is like 7 yards back or some shit hes running. this was i believe the year before rex got here. schotty sucks and before anyone asks the dumb question, oh so you think the d played well. the d played like shit. but no matter how bad the d is, the offense is usually worse. and the d was still ranked number 6 going into the game...
