the issue with #2 is down and distance. if we cant get to 3rd down or cant force obvious pass situations its tough to get pressure. we HAVE to slow down the run
they beat us in a game that meant nothing to them, without one of their best players in a game we had to win... a game where we were position for a late chip shot go ahead FG. they embarassed us twice. player bad both games and still won.
I don't know why people are tripping about the run. Mo and the lineman can slow down Jeremy Hill and Bernard. Did you not see the Giants game when Mo returned? The run d was light years better. Bernard will be a test for Lee and the linebackers if he gets out in space. I think it'll be a close game, Jets got a shot.
mo is great, but he isnt a DT, and right now, im not confident in our tackles. you dont need ro double team defensive ends very often in the run game. having a guy command one in the middle ims important, to keep the gaurda from getting to the second level. its our biggest concern outside of QB.
Thats why ive been on board with a 4-3 look. In a 4 man front, Mo can play anywhere, they can put him and McLendon inside. Mo took on a lot of double teams as well especially on passing downs. With the 4 man front and the players we have, Jets can make up for the loss of Snacks and his run defense. I think corner absolutely is an issue, far more of an issue compared to the line. Sammy Watkins scares the shit out of me as a Jets fan.
Leonard Williams played DT all pre-season...in a 4-3 with McClendon The four man front dominated against the Giants, granted that doesn't say a lot. But Williams may very well be on the verge of causing some major damage. I think they're better than you're giving credit for. With the four man front Harris and Henderson were doing damage stuffing the run up the middle too. Really appeared to be a strength of the team, but we have to see it in the games. Wanna see Jenkins set the edge tho. That looks like it will be up to Jenkins, Catapano, and maybe Sheldon when he returns. Sheldon being out may dictate a different approach tho so we'll have to see how TB handles that. How we run the ball concerns me
A healthy Watkins scares all teams, as does Julio, AJ, Hopkins, etc. This is the NFL, teams will have weapons. Our D is better equipped to handle them than most though I believe
I personally and respectfully disagree, our D is one of the best and we have forte and two of the best receivers in the league. We also have better coaching I think. Marvin has been very mediocre in his time span
Running the ball will be tough going for both teams. There will be a lot of screen passes and RB dump offs from both teams. I also expect Robby Anderson to get some opportunities with his speed to try and keep the safety out of the box.
Some Jet fans just don't know about Steve McLendon's overall capabilities. He worked his way through the ranks of Pittsburgh's defense over the years (taking over their starting NT position back in 2013) and is going to downright flourish here in N.Y now that he'll be surrounded by the likes of Wilkerson, Williams & Richardson. Everyone seems to be making a big deal about losing Harrison regarding our run defense. And for nothing too. Chances are (imo) Snacks will become exposed on the Giants defensive line while no longer being surrounded by both of Wilkerson & Richardson (on each side). Many of Jet fans worried about our NT/DT position (against the run) are unaware that McLendon is a force to be reckoned with against the run up the middle. For example last year the Steelers gave up an average of 2.31 yards per carry against the run with McLendon on the field (which was 1.31 yards per carry fewer than when McLendon was off the field). That difference of 1.31 yards per carry against was the NFL's biggest differential for defensive lineman who played at least 300 snaps. Last year McLendon anchored a top 5 Pittsburgh run defense. The Steelers ranked 2nd in rushing TD's allowed, 2nd in runs resulting in 1st downs, 5th in total running yards given up and 6th in average yards per carry against (#1 With McLendon on the field). He's going to absolutely feast against the run up the middle once alongside and in between the likes of Wilkerson, Williams & Richardson. He's also much better in terms of collapsing the pocket with quarterback pressure right up the middle when compared to Harrison. Our Defensive Line pressure is going to be top notch.
defending the run is going to be a massive issue all year we could very well get shredded. hopefully we can scheme to helpit. revis returning to form would help, allowing us to committ 8-9 to the run
We are now 1 of 31 teams that don't have Snacks at NT. Therefore we're screwed. Did I get that right?
Run defense is the #1 strength of this team, by far. On the ranks of our problems as a team, I would actually put that at the bottom. We have 3 of the top run playing DE/DT hybrids in the NFL, a serviceable NT and a head coach whose blitzes are mainly up the middle to stuff running lanes. David Harris has been a stallworth in the middle run game for a decade and Darron Lee has sideline to sideline speed to help in the zone stretch game. Calvin Pryor was significantly improved as a run defender last year and figures to be again. Losing Snacks sucks, but it's nowhere near enough to stop the run defense from being elite like it has been for the last 3 years. How anyone can think that unit is a problem is beyond me. Offensive line is a problem, cornerback depth is a problem, tight end is a problem. Saying our run defense is a concern is like saying the Broncos pass rush is a concern, it's been on THAT level lately. Now, the run defense probably will look shaky early because it's playing 2 great offensive lines in CIN and BUF, but it always struggled against good o-lines (OAK last year, DAL game was way too close because of their line, BUF beat us twice because they were able to run the ball). But when it's not playing a top line, it'll dominate as per usual.
Dalton quick passing game worries me as we struggle with that type of attack... eifert being out is a massive boost . Jet 24-20
