Bill Belichick on the drive at the end of SB XXXVI

"That was our offense, Three passes to the back, behind the line of scrimmage on most of them. One pass to Troy Brown 2 yards downfield. And a 5-yard pass to Wiggins. Brady did [well], but J.R. made a great run to get out of bounds. The pass to Troy really is an easy 2-yard pass. It wasn't like it was some in cut between three [defenders]"

On the pass to Wiggins that set up the FG

We said, 'Look, get it to him quick and go down so we have time to clock it.' That made it a 48 [yard attempt] instead of 54.

I got this from "The Ultimate Super Bowl Book"

The point is? Do you actually think what Brady did was easy? To be able to keep his composure as a 1st year QB w/ the SB on the line. One mistake and he goes down in flames as the greatest goat in SB history.

We have NO IDEA how the game plays out if he doesn't pick off that ball. you assume the rest of the game goes exactly the same and you can't do that.

What we do know is that they had a 14 pt lead in the 4th qtr and the defense blew only to be rescued by Brady.

I just gave you a fact and you're trying to spin it ... As usual. They are not in that game without the defense and Ty Laws INT. Why do you ignore his play or their plays that set up 10 more points.

They had 17 points ALL off of turnovers. Keep blaming the defense when they held the greatest show on turf to only 17 points.

And the defense was "rescued" by the Patriots offense AND Vinatri NOT Brady alone. Redmond saved Brady by making a great play to get out of bounds as did Troy Brown. Yet, you don't mention those plays. My guess is because it doesn't say that on the play by play sheets

That's not a fact, it's a what if. We have no idea how the game plays out if that INT is not returned for the TD. You cannot assume everything plays out the same and the bottom line is the play happened. The NE D played great for almost 3 qtrs then nearly gave the game away in the 4th qtr until they were rescued by a QB playing in his first year.

The stat sheet said manning had a 97.7 and 90.4 rating the last 2 playoff games so I guess I guess I don't just use the stat sheet, huh? All Manning backers have are the fantasy #s. It's hysterical you bring that up and then to act like you memorized the game when you said you watched in recently and of course even when manning makes bad throws or bad decisions you are there to make excuses for him.

It's pure coincidence that NE was a terrible football team before Brady took over and magically they won a SB his 1st year and 3 in 4 years.

I can make a pretty clear assumption of how the game would have went considering Brady led the Pats offense to zero points when the defense didn't get a turnover for him.

I've watched that game three times now. I am fully 100% convinced you do not watch the games at all.

One of the INTs SHOULD have been caught. You put 100% of the blame on him. What fantasy numbers have I used? It's funny how you say everything is fantasy numbers as if throwing TD passes are meaningless.

How many Super Bowls has Brady "led" the Pats to when he didn't have a Top 5 defense?

He didn't try to do too much, put manning in that spot and he turns it over 2-3 times b/c he's trying to do too much. Evene as a 1st year starter Brady had more composure than Manning does now in his 12th year.

One of the INTs COULD have been caught not SHOULD have and he still had not one but TWO possessions to win that game and he couldn't lead them but I know he was great and it was the fault of others.

Who cares what their reg season ranking was? The Pats D allowed less than 2 PPG less per posteason game than Indy's D. The D's have been close, the difference has been at QB where one steps up and one steps back.

With a chance to put a strangle hold on the division yesterday, and a chance to lock up the game Brady threw a redzone INT on 2nd down to a rookie CB. Then he had over a minute with a timeout to drive down into FG range for the win and he threw another INT - this time to the great Channing Crowder. His composure was outstanding.

Knock Brady all you want but the guy is an all-time great quarterback. No offense, but you sound like a unusually foolish Pats' hater.

He didn't try to do too much?!?!?!?!?! That's your excuse for Brady? He didn't do anything, and even the last drive was the result of the effort of others. If it wasn't for the defense they don't win that game. That's a fact and how you can deny it even with your above response "He didn't try to do too much" is baffling. To you actually believe the stuff you type?

One of the INTs SHOULD HAVE BEEN CAUGHT. I will go on all day repeating the same thing because it's true. I've already discussed the last drive with you but all you see on the play by play sheet is:

    MANNING INCOMPLETE PASS

I guess you can't answer the question, so I will answer it for you. He hasn't "led" the Pats to a Super Bowl that hasn't had a Top 5 defense.

I'm not knocking Brady, I'm telling it like it is. Give credit to those around him. They saved the Pats in SB XXXVI. Redmonds effort to get Out of Bounds. Same with Troy Brown. Vinateri kicking a 48 yd FG with the SB on the line. Ty Law with an INT for a TD. The Pats defense knocking the Rams recievers around all game long making them ineffective. nyjunc never seems to mention that, in fact blaming the defense for the near loss after the defense got or set up the 17 points they had in that game.

Were the Pats eliminated yesterday? I love these weak arguments- we should ignore payton mkaing mistakes like that to end his season but we should focus when Brady does in a reg season game w/ a cushion atop the division?

He didn't do anything except lead one of the all time great drives in SB history to get his K in position to win the Super Bowl.

One of the INTs COULD have been caught not SHOULD have. It was NOT a good throw and AGAIN putting that side he had TWO chances to win the game and failed both times.

The question was nonsensical especially considering the fact that the Pats and Colts D's have given up close to the same amount of points in postseason since 1999.

Isn't it amazing how the pats were getting worse every year, how they were 5-11 in 2000, how they started 0-2 then miraculously won 11 of thier last 14 w/ him en route to the SB? It was all a big coincidence just like BB's record w/ and w/o Brady. he's just a "system" QB:rofl:

    Nice strawman argument Junc.

You were talking about how great Brady's composure is. I merely pointed out the choke job he pulled off yesterday with a chance to basically lock up the division. You would kill Manning for playing that way. Of course, since it was Brady who did it you call it a "weak argument" and post your favorite animated smiley.

Without JR Redmond and Troy Brown they don't get into position to kick the FG. Give credit to who deserves it.

The pass SHOULD have been caught. It hit Keith in the hands and was NOT thrown too hard. Get it right.

The question had nothing to do with the Colts. How many teams has Brady "led" to the SB when the defense wasn't Top 5? I'm sorry if the question was too difficult for you.

The defense gave up 17 or fewer points in 13 of the 17 games he started that year (incl. playoffs). They won the SB all because of Brady

Nah, I don't kill guys on regular season games unless it is week 16-17 and it
decides their season but keep trying.

Those guys deserve credit too but the leader of the team took over in an impossible spot and got those players the ball to make plays. He was a 1st year starter w/ the SB on the line and he had the compsure to march them into FG range.

he got the ball at his 17 w/ NO timeouts and 1:21 to play. Every sane person in the World thought they'd run out the clock in that spot fearful a young QB would make a mistake.

The pass was hard from 5 yds away and wide of the seldom used RB.

The question is silly since that "top 5" Defense tried 3 times to blow SBs and they succeeded once.

How was that great team doing the years leading up to Brady and the first 2 games w/o Brady? It's just an amazing coincidence they started winning as soon as he stepped on the field.

Bledsoe was bad BUT NE did make a SB w/ him and they were only one year removed from a playoff team when BB took over.

You keep trying to equate the Colts and Pats defense. The difference has been 3.5 points per game (not less than 2 like you have said multiple times). If you take into account Peyton's pick six, presumably against the Pats in 2006 (like you have alluded to in at least one post) then you have to allow for Brady's near pick six (brought back to the NE 1 yard line) against Denver in 2006. Also, you fail to bring out that the Pats defense has scored 5 TD's in Brady's playoff games and Colts defense has scored 0 TD's in the same span.

Again, not defending Peyton here, but trying to claim that the Pats defense hasn't been superior to the Colts defense doesn't wash.
