I don't understand this. Saleh had so many hallmarks of a bad coach. We were among the most penalized teams in the league during his tenure and got blown out constantly. We didn't have an above average point differential once during Saleh's tenure.

I agree that Glenn looks like a bad coach though.

Saleh was bad and the record reflects that…however, he fielded pretty good defenses for the most part, as you would expect a DC to do

Glenn has been much much worse…the record is worse of course, but also its not a good look that his side of the ball has been atrocious, and with many of the same core guys on that side of the ball, so he’s worse than Saleh as he can’t even field a good D…on O, the problems mostly start with Fields, but Glenn HAS to own that as he was his handpicked guy…sure I get the options weren’t much, but shit he could have signed Jameis Winston for 25% of the cost…of course Winston sucks too, but Fields is worse

Actually, coaches in a tank always get fired. Always. The most common reason is that you started taking because you sucked in the early part of the season, and why do you want to keep the coach who sucked in the early part of the season?

The '25 Patriots? The beneficiary of an experienced HC. Not sure how long it took the Lions or the Colts. All of them sucked until they hired the HC they needed to make things work. We have no idea what we have in Glenn yet, but in lieu of that we're laying a solid foundation for once. Once Glenn's body of work has a few more chapters in it, perhaps then we can judge him fairly. Glenn is here for the foreseeable future so might as well hope for the best.

Mougey is a better GM than Douglas so far and that's what we have to count on for a better future. Given enough time, this CS/GM combo just might be the one that pulls off the turnaround.

I pretty much agree with everything you mentioned, I like Moug a lot and even Engstrand but I saw enough of Glenn 4 weeks in. He made egregious errors week in and week out which can happen with a rookie coach (I've never seen it happen but sure, maybe) but it's how he would blindly defend it in the pressers when anyone with eyes knew he was wrong. He would then admit during the week it was wrong but then do the exact same thing the next week. I deal with hundreds of different people a year for work, I am a pretty good judge of character imo but also recognize my own biases.
Now that doesn't mean I am guaranteed to be right but I have worked around and with people like Glenn, I feel like I can almost speak his pressers verbatim before he does. He's not a good coach, hell I would avoid him like the plague if I had to work with him.
He's a cheerleader and a damn good one at that but that's it. He has no feel for the flow of the game, preparation seems almost non existent (some of those situational things should have been decided before the game) and he just seems way over his head but wants to gaslight us into thinking otherwise when anyone with eyes can see right through it. He's argumentative with reporters even when he's wrong which is often.
I hope he is OK and it can work if we bring in some coaches to help him. He needs a clock specialist, situational coach and for God's sake a PR specialist. If we can relegate him to cheerleader and have coaches coach he will be fine but he won't let that happen so he will dig his own grave.

Everything you said is true. Everything you said also falls under the OJT folder too. Being HC isn't really a plug and play job for the untrained. That's on Woody but sadly, that's also the rules we have to live with so... Glenn will need time to learn how to be the CEO HC. I have more faith in Engstrand than I do in Wilks and I can see Wilks being replaced next year if this defense doesn't tighten up. Ulbrich also sucked his first year here but by year 2, the unit started to jell. If we're lucky, that happens with Wilks. Engstrand's learning curce seems a lot flatter than Glenn's. Means the offense will come along quicker IF Tanner maintains an aggressive role. He can't let Fields' limitations also limit the playbook Either Fields can operate the system or Fields gets replaced.

If by next year Glenn still looks lost, lets have this conversation. I think the light bulb comes on by the end of the season but I'm evidently the optimist around these parts.

I'll definitely give him this season even though I will have to bite my tongue and try to be objective. I really would be shocked if it gets better, tiger can't change his stripes but since we don't have a choice we can reserve judgement. If it doesn't get better by January? How could we possibly bring him back, even Moug at some point might step in and be like shit, we have something here but this coach is an idiot lol.

If Mougey keeps on making moves like this year, his stay with the Jets will be far longer than Glenn's. Although its still up in the air about our HC, we're seeing a GM being developed and showing a certain shrewdness that was lacking in all of our prior GM's going back to Tannenbaum.
