To me, one of the biggest mistakes ever is ESPN putting those guys with the Jet construction helmets with the Jet planes on the top on the screen. Makes Jet fans look ridiculous.
Tell that to Brett Favre. Dislocated finger, gets it reset and taped and re-enters the game. The flu? Puhlease. The fact is the dude didn't want to play here no matter what. Abe's lack of motivation was partly Herm's fault, but you know what? True winners don't need external catalysts. Desire to be the best is all it takes.
I go back to the Walt Michaels era. It just always seems like we are on the opposite side of good luck. 1982 AFC championship game in the mud. 1986 team that did not win another game after Paul Macquire jinxed them. 1998 championship in Denver, which we should have one and the SB was ours. Don't forget the start of 99 when Vinne blew out his Achilles. Maybe this trade of Abe will be one that works out for us. I would not consider myself a darksider, but when you see an organization fail for 37 yrs, it gets frustrating. I just hope we do not end up like sox fans (red and white) and have to wait another 50 yrs. If we do then so be it. The Jets will be back and the new front office should be given a chance to show the fans they are for real.
Abe is overrated, and if I had to pick between he and Ellis, I'd take Ellis every time. Ellis is a complete DE and a team player. Abe would dominate 2-3 games a year to compile his sack total against the weakest OT's he faced, only to completely disappear from the rest of the games. While he was starting to improve against the run, Abe was incapable of a bull rush and frequently created running lanes abandoning his assignment to go around the tackle and avoid the double team. Mario would be an enormous (literally) upgrade at the DE position, regardless of whether we play 3-4 or 4-3.
