you take a chance whenever you draft qb they all have a great chance of flopping, but that's the only way you build a superbowl team.
In the draft you have to take some gambles. Historically speaking I believe left tackles in 1st round of the draft have been less likely to become busts, while quarterbacks are more likely. Just my opinion.
Why are you so sure he will flop? A rebuilding franchise should have the balls to draft a potential franchise QB. At this point, we should be willing to take the risk. I know I am.
i tihnk there is a 44% chance cutler will be a complete failure 37% he will be decent, but not what some of you had hoped 18% chance he is a franchise qb and will be here for years to come 1% legendary yes, these are my randomly generated numbers
Everything we have done so far this offseason is based on potential. Cutler just continues with that trend...
Virtually every QB who is a good starter in the NFL was drafted in round one. If you look around the league and at past drafts, first round QBs do so much better than everyone else, while you can find starters in the later rounds for offensive linemen. Obviously, the probability of finding great linemen goes down each round, but it's not as significant as the dropoff for QBs. We're rebuilding right now, so trading down has to be the first choice, but if Leinart and Bush are gone, give me Jay Cutler. Quarterback is the #1 position of any rebuilding team. It takes that position the longest, so while the QB learns the NFL, you can fill in the rest of the team, and when the QB is mature, the rest of the team will be maturing as well. That's the essence of rebuilding. The offensive line is vital to success, but you don't necessarily need the most talented players there. If you get 5 fairly talented players working in a scheme and working together, you'll have a great line. And this draft is deeper than most in offensive tackles. Jeremy Trueblood has a much better chance of being a great player than Brodie Croyle or Charlie Whitehurst.
That is an EXTREME reach.... Look...if the line sucks...it doesn't matter how much talent ANY quarterback has. On his back or in the training room,he doesd the team no good. D-Brick should be the number one pick hands down. As for the Mike Williams comparison. I remember when Williams was about to be drafted, ESPN followed him around. He seemed like a nice kid, but he was immature. I think D'Brick will be much better, because if anybody can put up with Al Groh for four years. has got to have a hard shell. Seriously...you have to build the line, because they are backbone of any team.
Usually when a team has an extreme change in the front office such as a new GM and coach, they want to build a team with their players. They dont want to build a team with players that were chosen from the last regime. Thats why their cleaning house. Theres no other position that puts a face on the team like a QB. Pennington is "WAY TOO" injury prone to start anything here. They have to draft one of the three QB's to start rebuilding here. They will have a high 2nd. RD. and a high pick with an Abraham trade. They can use these picks for the OL.
let me just keep the fire going: if we already have a left tackle who shows signs of being an everyday, good LT, why draft another one? I think RG and RT are the offensive positions that need to be addressed. Who disagrees.:breakdance: :breakdance:
take D'brick!! he owns and cutler with out an O-line will do NOTHING......we can always get a qb in the 2nd round to back up penny!
