Just wait till we have to play the Bills. And all the other teams not named the Dolphins. Hey, we didnt look impressive against them either. Im not looking to be the Patriots of last year, just something where im not laughed at by Giants fans.
We also have another shot at them, and there is no reason not to expect our offense to be better at that point in the season. Two big improvements that will go a long way over the course of the season - we're running the ball better (4.2 YPC) and stopping the run better (3.1 YPC) than last season. If we can improve our struggling special teams and become more disciplined (less penalties) that will be huge. Then consider Favre gaining chemistry with the receivers. The defense is already light years better than last season IMO and still has room for improvement. I'm not ready to sit here and hang my head over the "same old jets". This team has a ton of potential, even if we did lose a game to a team that was 16-0 last season yesterday.
I hope you're right man. I hope you're right. It was tough watching this game, I lost my voice cheering this team on, only to come out with a loss. I agree with u on all points. The penalties aspect can definetely be fixed as soon as next game, but after ST is going to take some time (especially finding a goddamn kicker who can hit a FG--I've lost all hope for Nuge). It's good to see that offensively we are making progress, however, I have to believe that our defensive numbers are a bit deceiving. They're compiled off that Dolphins win, and a Brady-less lead offense. I have to believe had Brady been in the game yesterday, those numbers would've been really different. We'll see how it pans out. I'll hold off those 'same old Jets' & 'sky is falling' comments until around the Bye Week.
Y'all want some cheese with that whine??? I'm agree with you. This loss to the Pat-rots is not a season-ender, by any stretch of the imagination. The Jets looked pretty damn good at times. As much as I dislike the guy, Jay Mariotti on ESPN's Around The Horn actually had an interesting observation about the Patriots earlier today. He said their defense is getting old and that the careful game plan the Patriots rolled out against the Jets just isn't going to get that team very far this season, because their defense will wear down as the season drags on. Like I said earlier in a different post: You wanna panic? Look at the games we got after the bye week coming up. If the Jets can't beat the Bengals, Raiders and Chiefs three weeks in a row, then it will be time to whine and moan.
Does anybody think the Pats' got a big advantage by having Pocziask - or whatever his name is, you know the 4th string TE - on the team? Wouldn't be surprised if Belicheater cuts his ass now that he's utilized him for info on the Jets' playbook and offensive / defensive signals. Not saying that's why we lost. But something to consider. Cheaters can't stop cheating, it's in their nature.
I understand what you are saying and some of it is true maybe most of it. You know I am no dark sider by any stretch. I find them totally annoying....... but....... Sunday, I could not help but feel that feeling in the pit of my stomach. I just knew they were going to lose that game. They were outcoached, undisciplined and horrible on special teams. That is just a disastrous recipe for failure against a Patriots team and completely frustrating at this point with this staff. The special teams absolutely sucks. I can understand Feeley. It is going to take him another week or 2 to get accustomed to the holder snapper etc. I can forgive a missed field goal because I think he will be fine, he is a good vet kicker. However, Graham has sucked balls going on the second straight season and that is on all the staff, including Westhoff. There is no excuse for punting that bad and still having a job. The coverage units have been mediocre as well. How many times can you give the other team field position like they did and win. Undisciplined play.............Some of the penalties could have gone either way (Cotchery and Pace) while wtf is up with Woody? That guy is a freaking walking penalty. It seems every time the Jets make a big first down or defensive stop a stupid penalty gets in the way. That was last week too. Outcoached? Well I am not going on a diatribe about that. Hopefully it was a one week thing. We shall see as the Chargers staff is mediocre to me but we shall see. Just a little frustrated with how things went Sunday as that was a totally winnable game that the Jets let slip away with just dumb mistakes and poor coaching and to me that is inexcusable imo. I really do not think the Pats were all that great and were very beatable but not when you play that stupid. Right now it looks like the Jets are just not a smart team and that is what bothers me most.
Pociask was cut by the Pats the week after they signed him. Kraft probably cut him a nice fat under-the-table check for telling them what plays Favre was comfortable with in the limited camp he had after we traded for him. As far as the whole 'sky is falling' mentality... well, this is a Jets board, what the hell do you expect? They playcalling was very weak and it was my concern before the season started, and they've done little to allay my fears. You can have the most talented team in the world and get killed by coaching. And we don't have the most talented team in the world. The defense has improved by leaps and bounds, but it is hardly infallible, especially when the wrong coverage is called. Kris Jenkins is the biggest difference maker on that side of the ball, but I love the way Pace has shown up all of the doubters and Bryan Thomas is doing what we paid him for 2 years ago... sort of. Why the hell we kept Sutton is anyone's guess. The offense, well, I'm still not sure what we have there, although the power run game is non-existent until Chatman gets off his suspension. Coles was horrible (although he is still Coles), Cotch is very good, I am now on the Stuckey bandwagon... but unless Lil Schott figures out a way to make them effective with Favre, it's a moot point. For me, the sky isn't falling until we lose to very shitty teams like the Chiefs and Raiders... but that's a very optimistic 'the sky isn't falling' mentality, because if we can't beat the Pats without Brady, and if we get our asses handed to us by the Bolts next week, why bother? We won't go anywhere in the PO's if we can't get things together in a hurry.
I actually had the same feeling, it was a difficult game to watch. At the same time, I see a better team with a lot of potential to grow. Maybe it will happen, maybe it won't. I don't feel like this team "can't beat the Pats" because we lost that game - fix a few issues, build some chemistry and things could be a lot different. Prior to this season I felt like we couldn't beat the Pats for the past few years even though we did in '06. Special teams and undisciplined play were the two biggest factors in the loss IMO. I think the "outcoached" thing is being over played. Take away the key penalties, drops, field position and previously mentioned mistakes and how much bad coaching was there really? Maybe Suttons inability to adjust to the stupid ass draw play in the 4th until it was too late - I honestly can't sit here and point to anything else. I disagree whole heartedly with those upset with the 3 runs on 1st and 3 to the goal. We were outplayed by a decent margin and maybe outcoached a little by arguably the best in the business. I was real disappointed we lost, but not shocked.
