I agree that was a tough one to handle. 6 second half fumbles after taking a 10-0 lead at Mile High. We had the best team in the league that season.

The year after the mud bowl was the worst for me. Team just hari-karied itself. Sad to see.

1976 - the Lou Holtz year...the college kids, the fight song - running Joe Namath out of town ---that's my top pick.

1996 - 1-15 under Kotite - the team was the joke of the NFL

This year has pissed me off the most. There were plenty of other bad ones. I actually have good memories of 99 cause of the strong finish and barely missing the playoffs after starting 0-6. I think had we made it that year we would have beaten anyone in our path.

Keep in mind that the Broncos were over the salary cap that year. Once again, the NFL screws the Jets.

    Kotite

I have been watching the jets religiously since 1986, and I have to say the Kotite years, hands down, were the worst ever. What other sport organization can say they had a head coach that would leave practice early to beat traffic?? As far as the worst moment in Jet history in my time, it has to be the Fake Spike. I was in the stands that day as Aaron Glenn stood in the endzone pondering his shoelaces while Isotoner Dan put a Shotgun to our seasons heart and pulled the trigger. I remember bashing the seat in front of me in a heartbroken rage like it was yesterday...ahhh the sweet memories this team has given me :drunk:

This year is not even in the same category. It never got started, even though we are bad, we are not a joke like in 1996.

1999 was the year that we were going to win it all. That dream ended at halftime in Week 1. To make matters worse we had no QB and started 1-6. After the bye we were the best team in the League with Ray Lucas. Two losses back to back to NYG and the Colts killed any chance of the playoffs.

    Then Parcells decided to resign.

    That is the worst year.

I think it may have been 4, but the last year of Kotite, when we went 1-15 will be etched in my mind as the most painful ever by far. We clearly had way better than 1-15 talent and it tippified Kotite's cluelessness.

We didn't have playoff talent that year, but no way we were a 1-15 team.

So I totally agree with you.

The Jets were 4-12 in 1980.

The Jets started 0-3 and then won in Denver. Then they dropped three straight again.

1996 was by far the worst year. You can call playoff losses one game disappointments, but there were many wins and exciting games that came before that one. 1996 was a complete loss with a horrible coach and a team with little talent. Add in that it followed a 3-13 season and you can easily say those were the dark ages. Throw in the collapse after the fake spike in 94 and the 94-96 years were terrible times.

Some of the years in the 1970's were also very dreary. 1971 was a huge disappointment. Namath was still in his prime, the Jets had a strong defense and were poised to do well. Then Namath injured his knee in a preseason game making a tackle after a pick.

The Jets were horrible from 1975-1977.

1980 was bad also, going 4-12 and giving the Saints their only win.

1989 was a terrible year. 4-12 with Joe must go Walton at coach and a team that didn't want to play for him anymore.

Three of the four choices on this list don't even come close to being the worst seasons for Jet fans.

1975 - 1976 - 1977 - The end of the Namath era and the beginning of the Richard Todd era. These were the worst years that I can remember. I believe we were 3-11 all three seasons.

This team, this year has been competitive in all but two games. In the three seasons above we were horrible! This has been a great season compared to those years!

Oh, I don't know. You can mix and match Jets debacles with such ease, it's like being at a fashion show for fatalists.

For sheer sucktasticness, I go with 96. Just pathetic. Just ugly. Depressing.

For shattered expectations, 99. I KNOW that if we beat Denver in the AFC Championship, we stomp Atlanta. I've never been so confident or excited entering a season as I was before 99. I'll never forget the feeling when I saw Vinny go down. Oh, man. I remember where I was like old timers remember the moon landing.
