What was the QB rating ?

Yes, Paul McGuire had been saying to BET against the Jets for a few weeks....so he was WRONG for weeks on end....finally got it right in Week 12.

I remember Charlie Steiner saying on radio (I listened to the ABC feed, watched the game on NBC) after the Jets took a 10 point lead on Cleveland "The Jets are going to win this playoff game." I knew we were doomed at that point.

Only the Mets winning the WS saved me that year.

    It was the injuries.

Klecko out, Mehl out, McNeil out, Walker out, Fields out, McElroy out, O'Brien banged up.

It was the most brutal injury stretch in Jets history. When McGuire made that call he was just stating the obvious. The Jets had been decimated by injuries and the schedule over the last 5 games was rough.

I agree Br4d, but that loss against the Steelers was the tough one. They were a bad team that year (finished 6-10), it was a home game and they blew us out. injuries or no injuries, that was a BAD loss.

McGuire may have been stating the obvious (which was par for the course for him), but he hated the Jets and took delight in hounding them. He got a lot of publicity for it and it was the height of his otherwise unspectacular career.

As I recall McGuire used to trash us constantly, not just in 86. I couldn't stand the guy, but he always seemed to be doing our games. He is probably my least favorite announcer ever.

I always kinda liked Bob Trumpy. Trumpy and Don Criqui calling the AFC Game of the Week on NBC really takes me back to my childhood, lol. Guess I am an old-timer for that, haha.

He was a Bill from 64-70 Maybe that explains why he hated the Jets.

I have to laugh at the notion of ANYONE hating the Jets like Maguire did when he was calling games. Why in the world would you "hate" an organization as inept and utterly harmless, as the NY Jets? I mean seriously...what is there to "hate" from an outsider's POV? lol. People usually hate the teams that get all of the media hype, and which have enjoyed success, etc. Dallas, the Pats, etc. The Jets are on the opposite end of the spectrum for those franchises....the Jets are neither "glamorous and overhyped" or "successful", so why would anyone bother to "hate" us??! It doesn't make even sense. I think it is even silly for Giants fans to say they hate us. It would make more sense for them to just view the Jets as their annoying yet utterly harmless little brother, than to consider us a true rival worthy of intense hatred, lol.

I guess that maybe some people just really hate the color green???

at times, they had the most talent in the league.......especially 81 thru 86.......on offense and front seven on defense. The secondary was the achilles - even with the pass rush.

what separated them from the best were guys like walsh, shula, montana, and marino.

"most talent" is debatable, but they were definitely upper echelon
You are so right about Walsh, Shula, Marino & Montana

Walker and Toon > Duper & Clayton,

    but

Duper, Clayton and Marino>>>O'brien, Walker & Toon

I remember reading that Giants players always knew when LT was miked up, because suddenly he wouldn't shut up with his 'let's go out there like a bunch of crazed dogs and have some fun!'. When he wasn't miked up he was much quieter, apparently.
