do people really think that if t-rich, d woody and big cat ellis were on this team that santonio still wouldnt be popping off after a three game losing streak? at what point do the young, talented, vocal guys on your team get the "leader" tag? sanchez called a closed door meeting after tones first comments and told everyone to keep critiques in house, thats what leaders do ... is he supposed to follow tone around on his interviews and be his pr guy? tone is a little out there and weve known that since the day we traded for him the core four are the leaders on this team ... sanchez and revis are the more vocal kind, while mangold and harris are the more lead by example type this team has many glaring issues, lack of leadership is not one of them
He is talking about players. If Holmes was on the team in 09 I bet we would have heard something. It is who he is.
Yeah, I don't care about fans. Joe Dickhead saying "Fire Rex" after a specific loss means nothing to anybody except Joe Dickhead. And UKK, you might be right. No one really knows. You could also make the argument that Holmes is more likely to speak up now that he's a "captain" and thinks he's supposed to speak for the team. I don't know the answer. It's probably a little of both. Santonio's always been talkative, look at him blaming Schottenheimer at the end of last year.
what i would like to know is why there seems to be such a big difference between holmes calling out the pass blocking being followed by their best game yet and leaders "holding players accountable"? if i had to guess its because of who had said it and not what he said... its as if the media is just dying for a player like holmes to open his mouth so they can protray him as a bad guy
It's who he said it to that created the problem. A leader doesn't call out his teammates in the media. You keep that in house.
hes right and to debate it is laughable. Jenkins was known around the league and turned an obvious stone of setting the tone once he left CAR on bad terms. We also slowly have gotten rid of our veteran presence, well veteran leaders. Whos the leader on defense? Darelle Revis? I dont think so. Bart Scott? hes just a mouthpiece you want firing people up but he is NOT a leader. The only legit leaders this team has is Sanchez and LT. Mangold is someone who could take that step up but is a quiet goofball who lets his play speak for itself. Funny because a couple days ago I told my father. "This team lacks leadership and its apparent. Theres no unquestioned leader on this team" Sure people will stick up for Sanchez effort, but people who lead by example AND command TRUE respect. LT seems to be the only one there. I'm sure someone will want to go back and forth with me on this but thats how I feel and nobody has to agree. and I laugh at all of you giving Jenkins shit for calling it like it is.
And where he says it. It's one thing if you keep it internal. It's another thing where you speak out outside, and then Moore feels like he has to respond as well. It gets blown out of proportion a little because it's New York, so it's everywhere. But it does show there are some issues because this never really happened before. Rex's rule has always been to praise a teammate in the press. They're not doing that. I just don't get why so many people immediately dismiss what Jenkins is saying like he has an ax to grind with the Jets. He's played with a bunch of these guys. He has no reason to lie about something like this. I'm not inside the locker room, and neither is Jenkins anymore. But there's a lot of smoke here that there are some leadership issues, and this just adds to it.
i believe sherry rhodes was ... also, the biggest under-performing unit on that team was the qb position and no one was going to call out the $50 mill rookie qb for having a mid-season slump
i think his main motive is because he is an analyst now and needs something interesting to talk about... im sure there is some validity to what he says but the fact of the matter is that keeping around these old guys doesnt necessarily translate to our team being that much better than we are now.
I agree with that concept I also think Woody, at his age is still better than Hunter and an unquestioned leader. Were missing Ellis like nobody's business, at least in the locker room.
What a leader! 50 lbs overweight every offseason. Played 1,season and I remember how instruemental he was with his leadership when he helped pull the Jet's out of the 4 game slide in Mangini's last year. Bitter, disgruntled ex-employee. That should be his legacy.
I dunno about the present day Woody playing better than Hunter, especially with his injury history. As a leader, Woody wins hands down. As I stated earlier, I think our leadership issues are more on the offensive side of the ball. Ellis can still play and would be a valued member of the DLine rotation, but I think our D has no shortage of leaders.
Ellis got that salary only AFTER the Jets offered him only the vet minimum. It is quite likely he would have stayed for more than that but something less than what he EVENTUALLY got from NE.
And FTR I have no problem with what Holmes said or that he said it. He is a team leader. He's been there. And what was the net effect of his criticism? The Jet OL played better and the Jets won. I hope he says something before the SD game, too.
