I guess I don't view the draft picks as valuable as everyone else. The odds of getting a player as good as Mack in those two picks is slim to none. The odds of getting a player like Mack in 20 first round picks is slim to none. He's a franchise changing type player.
Plus we have jack shit worth any trade value. If we gave up draft capital, we’d have to swallow that void until we get past the comps.
It’s not that you’re wrong, it’s just that the Jets are way more than just Kahlil Mack away from being even in the picture. We need two guys with those two picks that will turn into starters at other positions because we have that many holes to fill.
For sure. But whatever holes we have on defense would greatly diminish by having a player like Mack. On top of that there is still $80m to spend on the OL to fix that up. On to the next one..
I would’ve traded 1’s. The players you get with those picks won’t even have close to the combined impact as Mack. Idk why fans and GMs are so obsessed with draft picks. Isn’t the goal of them to find players like Khalil Mack?....
I’m sure there’s a contingency plan. I wouldn’t be surprised if we hear about a trade for a player for our 3rd rounder.
I understand that mindset, but we have so many more holes to fill then just Kahlil Mac. Yes he would make other players on the defense better but we also need better players on the defense. Offensively, we know how much work we have to do. I love the amount of money we have to spend next year but there’s never a guarantee players want your money especially when other teams are offering close to equal money. It’s just not a prudent move given the current state of the franchise. It would be a huge risk and I don’t know that we want to do that after we’ve already made the moves to get the franchise quarterback in place. We have to do it the right way, not the Heasty way.
Maybe not just a Mack away but we are a Mack away. Unfortunately you don’t get to dictate when you can acquire a Mack so you better do it when it’s available. Missed a chance to have the 2 cornerstones needed to win consistently in this league.
Could the Jets trade for Khalil Mack? The definitive answer is no. He was traded to the Bears (credit to @NYJet10 in the NFL Forum). http://www.chicagotribune.com/sport...il-mack-trade-raiders-20180901-story,amp.html
Somewhere down the line it has to be about impact players not just plugging holes w early picks on paper. Thats where i strongly dffer w folks on this instance.I get we didnt have the ammo but i dont agree w this idea that all we need to do is plug holes. We need dynamic explosive playmakers. I think this will end up costing Bowles his job..perhaps even Mac. The pass rush might be even worse this year than it already has been. But hey plugging holes on the OL is far more important right?

I’m not sure I fully understand the point you made. If it’s that we haven’t found many quality starters in the draft and trading draft picks for a proven commodity All-pro at our biggest position of need is a good idea, then I fully agree.
See Post #829. The conversation will continue with vehemence no matter that Mack is on his way to The Windy City on a plane as we speak. Now it will turn into The Jets Should Have Traded for Khalil Mack They're Retarded, lol.
I don’t think it would’ve been a bad idea had we not just given up 3 2nd rounders and a 3rd. But we can’t afford to give up more.
And the way to build around Darnold is simply plugging holes by forcing OL picks a whole season away from whrn the draft actually occurs?? When all these “holes” get plugged a year or 2 from now & we still have zero playmakers or explosion..no..nevermind..everyone will just come up w new holes to fill or cry for more Oline.Who am i kidding?
