LOL Yes, I know it seems unlikely, that why I said "hopefully." I think that Mac does realize that in order to get a topflight LT prospect, he's going to have to draft him high in the first round. He did try to trade up for Laremy Tunsil after all. I don't think that Mac is stupid. I believe that he knows that Darnold's health will be in jeopardy this season if any of the starters on the OL go down with a serious injury, and maybe will be even if they all stay healthy. With all the cap space next offseason, I have to believe that Mac will be a big player in FA and hand out some big money contracts to FA OL. He should have done it this past offseason, but went the cheap route and failed. Hopefully he learned his lesson. If not, then Darnold probably won't have a long career in the NFL and the Jets will be looking for a new GM and FQB prospect.
I think that we're set for this season and likely next season as well, as the OL, edge rusher, and RB have to be our main priorities in FA and the draft next offseason. That said, we need to find Sam a #1 WR type to help him flourish.
No to everything you posted. Trade Williams? fuhgeddaboutit If Mac trades our 1st for Mack, then he should be shot and then fired. Our #1 had better go to our future LT. The only way it shouldn't is if all the top LT prospects are gone by the time we draft and Mac couldn't swing a trade up deal. Then he could use it on an edge rusher or if they were all gone too, a #1 WR or RT or maybe even a stud RB.
I could be down for an elite RB, but I do like Crowell. I just don't think a #1 WR will help Sam in any way. With the guys we have now, I trust all of them to get open, and with Darnold showing the ability to look at several reads in a play, he can just throw to the guy that is open. I don't see the need to want anything else. The top 4 WR we have now can all take any pass the distance, there is little left to desire besides a Julio Jones type and I'd rather we get OL than Julio with the way this team is built.
If he got Mack for just a first it would be the steal of the century. Your obsession with a LT is reaching comical proportions. Who knows if there will even be one worthy of the pick when the Jets are on the clock?
I'd rather have OL than elite #1 WR type too (at least for now), but usually the most successful teams look to add a dynamic #1 WR for their young FQB. I think you may be overestimating the abilities of our WR corps. I like them and think they're solid, but they're far from elite, and they had their share of difficulties getting open in preseason.
Sorry you feel that way and don't understand the importance of protecting your QB's blind side. If you understood anything about offensive football, you'd know how important a quality LT is, and the Jets haven't had one since a year or two before Brick's retirement. I've already stated in another post that all the top LTs may be gone by the time the Jets pick and Mac may not be able to swing a trade up for one of them. If that happens, then we do the best we can and take the BPA which hopefully would be either an edge rusher or RT. If not, then a #1 WR type, or a stud RB, or perhaps better yet, trade down, garner a 2nd round pick and draft the next best LT prospect and an edge rusher.
See... now you are making assumptions. I never said I didn't want to protect our QB. I do think it's pretty obvious the OL needs an upgrade. You are assuming that some perennial all pro awaits us in April and that is foolish thinking as far as I'm concerned.
By the way Mack has been all pro at both DE and OLB for what its worth.. I feel like you are implying he wouldn't be a good fit in our defense. More comedy.

I want no part of that. Jets need to be patient here. He could be available to sign in the off season without having to give up anything.
Patience is key, especially when they have Cleveland in game 3. Garrett is going to feast on this OL. It may re-prioritize the Jets' focus.
Football is the ultimate team sport but for as great as Khalil Mack is; I just can not wrap my head around the thought of giving away multiple draft picks (including a 1st round draft pick) for a 27 year old OLB. A.) He's been in the league for 4 years now and has only been able to lead his team to 1 winning season when in comparison to 3 losing seasons. B.) Has a career losing record of 28-36 overall (.437%). C.) Even during the season in which he won his Defensive Player of the Year award his team still lost to the Texans during Wild Card weekend (his 1st and only playoff game, a loss). • 27 years old. •1 winning/3 losing seasons. • 0-1 in the playoffs. • Career losing percentage of .437% And no wonder why Oakland wants to fleece a team for multiple 1st round draft picks. I don't even want this guy for a one single 1st round pick. I much rather draft our next Franchise LT or outside/edge pass rusher during a 2019 draft class that's fully loaded @ the top with both (and let's not act as if 14 other NFL pass rushers did not have more sacks than Mack last year and 7 the year before). He's put up some great individual statistical numbers but he's yet to A.) Demonstrate an ability to elevate his defense and B.) Has yet to demonstrate the ability to win games for his team throughout his first 4 years . P.S: 1986 was the last time an NFL Linebacker won the MVP award.
Just listening to NFL radio on the way home. They reported Rich Cimini said the Jets are all in for Mack and still actively trying to acquire draft picks for trade.
Also NFL radio guys made a great point. Two 1sts is the compensation for a non-exclusive franchise tag player. How often has a team paid thatt?
