First of all the Jets need to decide two things. They need to decide if they want to stick with Mark for the long term or if they want to change QB's. If they want to stay with Sanchez then they must must must put some REAL weapons around him. If they want to move on then cut him after this season and take the cap hit. Ride with McElroy in 2013 and see if he can be the long term solution at QB, if not then you hope to get a potential franchise QB in the '14 draft. As for this off season I would do the following. Offense Greene- Let him walk Moore- will retire, if not then let him walk, he was good for us but he is older now. Slauson- I would keep him for one more year. Dustin Keller- I would keep him, Sanchez favorite target and he's good at his position. Mark Sanchez- I would keep him but I would make an effort to put legit weapons around him Defense Bart Scott- I would let him walk, he has been solid this season, but he's old and slow Aaron Maybin- I'd keep him around at least he's cheap and he's young Yeremiah Bell- Older player but he's been solid, keeper as long as he's cheap LaRon Landry- he's only 27 same age as Revis, he's good when healthy, def a keeper. Eric Smith- He shouldn't even be on the team this year. Mike DeVito- Keeper, he is good for depth and can be had for cheap. Kyle Wilson- Solid at the nickle position, but to this point has been a slight disappointment. Special Teams Robert Malone- Sure why not?
The Jets can't stick with Sanchez for the long-term at this point. Meaning they cannot make the decision to do that and proceed from there. What they can do is to use him as a caretaker for a year or maybe even two while they find the next guy. If he suddenly finds it during that interval then he'll give the Jets a good choice for a change and an abundance of riches to deal from. Drew Brees did not find it in San Diego until the Chargers had given up on him and acquired Philip Rivers. When the weight of the world went off Brees shoulders he found himself. Not saying this will happen with Sanchez because it probably won't but it is one of the possible outcomes of the Jets using Sanchez for his maximum value right now as a placeholder for the next franchise QB.
we probably wont need to trade up - its probably a 3 win season next year (as well) I am surprised no-one has picked up Brian Hoyer to have a look at as a back-up QB
Yeah let it be know his next season is a lame duck season. That either you drafted a QB in 2013 (I don't see many) or your going for one in 2014.
