Meh, whatever. Netherlands will wipe the floor off Costa Rica. Ridiculous that penalty shots decide an important game.
Goalies are not supposed to move before the shot. The rule is ignored, I think I can recall maybe 1-2 times when the PK save was reversed because of goalie movement. They all do it, but CR goalie was just too blatant. They might as well remove the rule.
What's the alternative? You can't play overtime until someone scores, the physical demand is just too high, after a little while they simply won't be able to run and there is no score.
It's the World Cup. In hockey during the playoffs, if it goes to OT, it keeps going until somebody scores. Physical demand or not, and hockey has a lot of it. Doesn't matter anyway, Netherlands was going to wipe the floor off of either team, and I was rooting for Greece.
In hockey the field is smaller, players are skating (easier than running) and there are unlimited subs.
Some say that they should take a man off the pitch off each team every 10 minutes or so. But that would just increase the physical demand, and at a certain point, the game changes too much.
Navas played like Henrik Lundqvist out there with that team in front of him...What a great last 90 minutes in that one. I am so thrilled Costa Rica advanced. See ya Greece!
ESPN saying tonight that Belgium/USA is at 3 PM. Yeah, maybe your pregame show. Talk about false advertising.
I'm glad to see the Greeks go home, I see someone complaining that the PK's decide an important game but no mention of the fact that it probably shouldn't have gone to extra time for 2 reasons. 1) Greece defender absolutely without a shadow of a doubt got away with a handball in the box right after Costa Rica scored. That would have led to a PK and likely a 2 goal lead for the Ticos (and a small possibility of a red card). 2) A good team would have finished off Costa Rica in regular time , sorry you can't score 3 goals in 4 games and say you deserve to advance. Greece was a dumb foul away by an Ivory Coast defender from not even being here. They were absolutely the worst team to advance and 2 of their 3 goals came in stoppage time. They essentially went 3 full games without scoring. Costa Rica may not be the best team still alive but they deserve to be in the quarters.
Mexican HC is shifting on the ref, says FIFA should review the PK and send the ref home. My company has sites in both Mexico and Netherlands, and tomorrow there is a scheduled project meeting with reps from both will be on the conference call. Should be a fun meeting
I have to be in a meeting in MD on Wedn, planning to drive Tue afternoon. With 4 pm game will have to stop somewhere in the midpoint for a long late lunch.
Costa Rica deserved it...I also am someone that cannot stand how Greece plays. Its terrible football to watch. They really got lucky by advancing into the Round of 16 with Ivory Coast blowing it but they cannot create any offense for their life. What are they teaching in Greece? These guys were down 10 men from like the 65th minute...Really amazing effort and easily the greatest moment in Costa Rican history lol.
I also think we can safely say that between Navas, Ochoa and Howard that CONCACAF has some bad ass goalies
