Yeah but I think you are also selling Antonio Cromartie short, he's a damn fine cornerback, and he's fully capable of being a #1CB on any team in the NFL. It's quite a luxury to have someone to fall back on like him. It makes losing Revis a disappointment, but not a catastrophe.
bet 'ol Revis is wishing he'd held out of training camp to get his new contract...$100M guaranteed or some shit.
Acl tears usually affect speed and durability. Next year Revis needs to be healthy (and hopefully he will be) but he was never a top Cb due to his speed-- it's his physicality and mental ability which won't be affected as much. I'm more worried about contract negotiations because another team may take a chance and give Revis big money that the Jets arent willing to spend... :/
When a team loses its best player it always hurts. But when that player is not a Qb, it's possible to keep performing at the same level. Lets just wait and see.
lol, maybe two years ago...but Cro's basically been Otis Smith this year, either he makes plays or guys blow right buy him for big plays allowed.
I agree with you. I think a lot of people on here, especially younger fans are spoiled by Revis. A corner doesn't have to be unstoppable to be a #1 corner. All corners get beat, except Revis, he was the exception, not the standard. Cromartie was a number 1 before coming to New York and can be one this year. I'm more worried about our nickel than I am Cro, hopefully one of our young guys can step up there.
He was burnt once in the last 3 games. It happens to every corner but Revis. Besides that he has been great. Compare to Revis, not very good. Compare him to every other CB in the league, very good.
What's with this jackass espn reporter popping off prophetic claims about the jets? "New York will miss the playoffs for the second straight season after losing its best player." http://espn.go.com/blog/afceast/post/_/id/48340/jets-wont-survive-losing-darrelle-revis
what is so surprising about predicting a team will not make the playoffs if their best player misses 13 games? the only surprising thing about his statement is that you are surprised by it.
All 3 in today's paper: Ryan says Revis has torn ACL, out for season This was expected, but Jets coach Rex Ryan confirmed at his news conference moments ago that cornerback Darrelle Revis has a torn ACL and will miss the rest of the season, per multiple reports. Adrian Clayborn out for the season with knee injury Add the Buccaneers to the list of teams that had their worst fears realized today. Bucs coach Greg Schiano just announced that defensive end Adrian Clayborn will miss the rest of the season, after tearing a knee ligament in Sunday’s loss to the Cowboys. He’ll need surgery to repair the damage, per Roy Cummings of the Tampa Tribune. Clayborn led the Bucs with 7.5 sacks last year, and his loss leaves the Bucs without a legitimate edge rusher. Hard-luck Austin Collie now out for the year with knee injury Austin Collie, officially, can not catch a break. The Colts wide receiver, who made his debut yesterday after his latest concussion, promptly tore his right patella tendon and will miss the rest of the season. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/09/24/ryan-says-revis-has-torn-acl-out-for-season/related/ --------------------------------------------------------------------- All 3 on the same day.....ain't just the Jets. All teams deal with star players getting whacked for the season and somehow regroup and come out swinging. The Jets will be no different.
Ok. Let's look at it this way. He is the best player on the team - no doubt about it. However, I don't think we need that much weight in one position (CB) to succeed. That's like me being thirsty and you handing me 20 gallons of water... not necessary. The strategy will have to change. To say that with Revis - everything is worlds better than without him, is crazy. Does he help us? Absolutely. He single handedly removes the best receiver from the opposing team. He allows us to have a poor pass rush. However, who is to say that we can't have a similar success rate using a different scheme. Cro with help from so-and-so, Kyle Wilson with help from whoever. Why can't that work? I guess the jets will just have to play football the way most other teams play and win games, as a team...
All these injuries are a result of the new players contract that limits practice time and mandatory conditioning. The players wanted it, now they are suffering the repercussions. If you want to stay on the field in the most physically demanding professional sport, you need to put the work in. Sadly, many of these guys regimens have dropped off.
Bit of a blanket statement. Lots of them workout during the off season rigorously. Some even come back in better shape.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO REVIS CHRIST GOD WHY !!!! Revis isnt just our best player; he is the ONLY player that makes these shitty games watchable. now my only reason for watching the jets is to root for bilal powell to be put in the game while I drown my self jets pity in beer pitchers and whiskey. once I pass out, I'll dream of curtis martin busting a seam for a 20 yard gain... only that a nightmare of a giant vinny testaverde torn achilles chasing me into a pit where I am gang raped by a grey hoodie and a wig of brady's hair mop will awaken me into a revis-less hell on earth where the only thing I can root for is bilal powell to be put in the game.. its a vicious cycle.
Sorry about you guys losing Revis. Great players are what makes sport worth watching even if they play for teams you like to beat.
