Yeah, I was thinking about Houston, but then drew the conclusion that you did about their draft position. If Oakland picks first and we end up behind one of those teams (Buccs, Rams, Redskins), would it make sense to leapfrog them into Oakland's spot to take Mariota? I can't envision a scenario in which he falls to us at #4 or #5, presumably dropping past those other teams that are a threat to choose him.
Yes, if it were me I'd leapfrog. I know some folks here have questions about him but I think most of the issues raised are red herrings and some folks here don't want to trade up (pretty much at any price) which to me is incomprehensible considering the value of the position and how strongly I feel about the player. I'm not giving up 3 first rounders or 10 picks to land him, but I'm giving a enough that it'll hurt to do it, but I don't care--gotta roll the dice on this guy. I'm not sure TB (or anyone) takes Winston over MM, but like everyone else here, I'm just guessing. _
It all depends on how Mettenberger performs and what he shows them. If anyone had been guessing with the Patriots in 2001 they probably would have guessed wrong about Brady, not saying the Mettenberger will be as good as Brady or even that he'll be good, it's just that like Brady in 2001 to most if not all fans of the game he's a 6th round unknown. I do believe that if Mettenberger shows the Titans what they want to see then they won't take a top QB in the draft, much more likely at that point to get him a weapon like cooper or some line help, or to spruce up the defense.
Why? There are no Andrew Luck's this year. Mariota could absolutely fall to 4 or 5 if the teams in 1, 2, 3, etc., aren't willing to risk it / don't believe he will be their franchise Qb. I really like Mariota and I would like the Jets to draft him, but there are certainly scenarios in which he falls to us and we don't necessarily have to trade up to get him.
I would say our biggest threats are Tampa, Washington, and possibly Tennessee. It depends how Mett does. I think the Rams are too talented to end up picking ahead of us.
I can totally agree with this however I'm just concerned that if you are planning on him falling to you and he doesn't we've missed that one golden opportunity that we may not see again in a while--potential franchise QB and a really high pick. _
Even a single win for the rest of our season will mean we'd likely have to give up multiple first-rounders to get Mariota just because the Jets have such a tough strength-of-schedule, barring some late season heroics by other teams in the qb-market.
I heard the Bucs were screwed, didn't see what happened but it was a big stort on my Twitter feed. Good on Jax.
Expected to play next week, per Rotoworld. We better hope Locker isn't in when we play them, we will win.
Yeah that's good news that Mettenberger's injury isn't serious. Still, we need them to win a couple more games. I haven't seen Oakland's schedule, but it's looking like they'll end up with the 1st pick.
