LOL, Jamarcus Winston's #1 defender to the rescue. There's a reason that everyone takes the opinion of a school fan with a gigantic grain of salt when a player from their team is being discussed. For what it's worth, I also hope he gets drafted by another team. Too bad the Raiders aren't in the market for a QB.
Winston's off-the-field issues worry me. Point shaving thing screaaaams of BS though. Don't buy it for a second.
Raiders winning is good because if they have the first pick they're almost certainly going to trade down to 5-7. The Raiders are in great shape. They seem to have the franchise QB and some decent young pieces. What they need now is to stock up on picks and add cost controlled talent. Draft a couple offensive linemen and receivers to support Carr. They have a future DMVP on that defense as well. In a couple years I'd imagine they'll be swimming in cap space and be able to spend. For the first time in a while, I'm impressed with what Oakland is doing.
I don't know if KC is just overrated. They're terribly coached. They have as many or more pieces than us for sure. Guys we all know it. This team is headed for 2-3 meaningless wins and thus looking on the outside on QB/Cooper.
Any team in the NFL can lose to any team on any given day. For the Chiefs it's pretty much how Charles goes so goes the Chiefs, he's just that big of a part of their offense (Kniles as well but to a lesser degree). If the Chiefs can't move the ball on the ground they're in for a very long day.
I don't think the Chiefs are terribly coached, but they do have a team where if the running game isn't working and/or the defense has a let down they don't have a QB who can really open the game up with his arm. I mean the Chiefs prior to the arrival of Reid and Dorsey had been under .500 the prior two seasons and had only been over .500 one time the 7 seasons prior to their arrival and 3 times in the decade before their arrival. The biggest problem the Chiefs have is their offense is based on the need for Charles, and to a lesser extent Kniles, to carry the team.
I think that depends a lot on what Mettenberger does for the rest of the season, I'm a huge fan of Mettenberger and wanted the Jets to draft him as a developmental QB, but I have doubts he's ready yet...I have no doubt about his talent, but he's got some rough edges.
So if the Titans are in a spot to draft Mariota, do you think they'd pass on him/try to trade the pick in favor of committing to Mettenberger?
Mettenberger was drafted in the 6th round. If the Titans think there's a franchise QB on their pick they're going to take him. The way Mettenberger stays in the plan is to help the Titans not be in the position to take a franchise QB with their 1st round pick.
Then what teams are we among that would be looking to Mariota. Buccs need a Qb. Rams probably feel that Mariota is an upgrade (eventually) over Davis and Hill. If Tennessee ends up with the 2nd or 3rd pick, with Mettenberger, then I don't see why they wouldn't target Mariota, given the opportunity. What's the deal with Washington? Do they have a 1st Round pick? Are they already pulling the plug on RG3, in which case, they might also want Mariota? What teams are a threat to us getting Mariota? That's what I'm trying to figure out.
imo, if the bucs pick ahead of us, they take Winston. Winston doesn't need an offensive minded HC to succeed, and TB's receivers would fit perfectly with Winston's playing style.
In terms of teams that figure to be within a game or 2 of us, I'd say: Tampa Bay Washington (yes they have a pick) Rams I don't believe the Titans draft a QB, I think they really like him down in Tennessee and but for his ACL tear, he would have been a much much higher pick. I don't think they feel they're running a 6th rounder out there. Jax and Oakland aren't drafting a QB. Neither is Carolina, Minny, Atlanta, Giants or NO. Houston is going to be drafting too low to move up to 1 or 2 or 3 I would think. _
