Darnold looking like the starter right now, he's getting better with each practice. Poor Teddy! This Nickerson kid hopefully takes Skrine's spot on the roster
More Teddy. All things being equal I'd go with Teddy over McCown with the idea of the team moving forward into the future. Not liking the notion of trading him either. If he's healthy a commodity like him is tough to come by even if Darnold passes him sooner than later. But I'm guessing we're not gonna see Darnold the first half of the season at least. And Holy shit does he deserve to succeed and would I be rooting for that.
Most QBs were shit from day 1 with a tiny glimmer here and there of competency. This is... you know what, nope. Not gonna.
He's only played about 8 snaps since his injury. One garbage time appearance in a blowout win last season.
Bates needs to shut up to the media about Darnold starting. He can say whatever he wants to encourage Darnold, except talking about him starting at this point. It's Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay premature.
Check out the video on the Jets site. Not as bad as that Manoosh bullshit would have it. It's actually outstanding, and I don't take that away from what he said at all. Most of the Jets beat guys are a fucking joke... https://www.newyorkjets.com/video/jeremy-bates-minicamp-press-conference-6-13 It's a great look at Bates on it's own. All the coaches have a little conference call of their own and its all good. Check them out, good stuff. https://www.newyorkjets.com/video/all-videos
I'm worried too. I have these bizarre pings of optimism about the future long term. Seems too good to be true
No issue with Bates gushing about him. Darnold is humble and levelheaded. This is not going to inflate his ego. Bates is speaking the truth. We're giving the kid a trial by fire and it hasn't phased him. If he is progressing this well then we won't be able to keep a lid on it all that much longer anyway
I don't care what Girlish Mehta is trying to do. We don't have a QB controversy in the traditional sense. McCown is here to help Sam along and be a good mentor. He played well last year and is a solid guy in case we ever need to turn to him for whatever reason Bridgewater is here to rebuild his career after a catastrophic injury. He may win the job outright and start but he know this will eventually be Sams team. Bridgewater wants to make sure the rest of the league sees he can still go. Despite a tough day today Bridgewater has been very good during OTA's Whenever they think Sam is good and ready he should be under center. That's probably sooner than later. If he blows them away maybe he's under center week 1. But it's tough for me to see us around week 8/9 and him not being the starter.
