hahahaha. I "have" to go for my future brother-in-law's bachelor party next Saturday. I'll be the 6-foot-7 drunk guy in the Dykstra throwback.....It's actually my 1st time going to CitiField. Should be a blast watching us officially get put out of our misery, right?

Is Johan pitching? Cuz if he is, you might have a chance of seeing a win. A small chance, but a chance.

Nice to see that Jerry remains clueless to the very end. In discussing today's 18 run outburst, he pointed out about Ruben Tejada (who had 5 RBI today) that "He's the type of guy who's always in the middle of things and he showed that today." Yes, the same Ruben Tejada who was hitting .185/.278/.217 entering today's game. I wonder what color the sky is in Jerry's world. Unless, of course, he meant that Tejada is always in the middle of those innings when the Mets go three-and-out.

I wonder if the Mets will have the guts to give the job to Backman this offseason.

Knowing our luck/lack of balls...Backman will manage the Marlins to the Wild Card next season, while Bob Melvin gets us to that vaunted .500 level again.

The guts? You bet your ass they do. They are dying to sign Backman because he's cheap and because they think that it will trick the fan base they consider stupid into buying overpriced tickets by the boatload.

This team does not to be yelled at, it needs to be infused with talent, and an ownership that doesn't say things like "we thought Jason Bay's swing was a better fit at CitiField than Matt Holliday's (read- less expensive)." It's not David Wright's fault that the Mets aren't a contender playing below replacement level players at second base and in right field all season, or that the Mets started the season with a rotation built on hopes and dreams.

Omar Minaya is an idiot, but if you think that Jerry Manuel's incompetence and complete unwillingness to shake up the team has had nothing to do with their failures the past two years, I think you're sadly mistaken. Backman is a viable alternative, whatever he's getting paid, and he'd be the first Mets manager who seems to give a damn since Bobby Valentine. And I can't imagine why you'd be criticizing the starting rotation, considering that their top 4 starters have combined for a 3.42 ERA and 1.300 WHIP, numbers that are very comparable to those of Atlanta and Philadelphia. The Mets would take those "hopes and dreams" any time, and so would just about any other team.

Stokes released by Angels: The Angels released RP Brian Stokes after Monday's loss to the Indians and purchased the contract of C Hank Conger from Triple-A Salt Lake. Stokes was 0-0 with an 8.10 ERA. pitching 16 2/3 innings in 16 appearances this season.

Jerry stinks but its not like he's got all stars sitting on the bench that he refuses to play. The offensive failures of the team this year are ultimately on Omars' head, no matter how many times Jerry calls for an inappropriate bunt. No matter who was managing the Mets this year they would be the same mediocre team they are. The Mets need to get their organization in order before they worry about who's managing the team.

I didn't say that. Jerry sucks, yes, but he's like the Doctor in Batman who has to fix Nicholson's face.

There's nothing to suggest giving a damn equals wins. Bobby Valentine won because he was a great manager. Backman has no real record outside of a few short minor league stints. A lot suggests he's a sociopath and that the season could degenerate into a circus. The platitudes about hustle and commitment to fundamentals that the Mets spew when they hire Backman are just double talk for "too cheap to make a real investment in a winner."

My point was that this isn't the starting rotation we started the season with. The Mets spent 16.5 million on John Maine and Oliver Perez and slotted them into the rotation. The only reason both aren't there today is injury/gross incompetence. That gross incompetence was plain to anyone who has access to www.fangraphs.com, or baseball reference, or even a baseball card. But not the management. Which is shocking really. Who'd have known that the guys that brought you the Newark Bears 2011 starting lineup on Opening Day would have been so bad at building a team?

Gary Matthews, Alex Cora, Mike Jacobs, Jeff Francoeur...how do you shake that up? This team will end up winning 75 games, but I think with even the best manager, they'd be an 86 win team.

What's sad is, they could be really good, but they won't. The most I've hoped for is them not irrevocably screwing up. The best I can hope for is them getting so embarrassed that they finally spend money and bring in the right guys to make changes, but I think that's another year away, and then two more years until they screw it up again.

They don't have to spend a gob of money, they just have to be smart, play the best players, and stop worrying about offending veterans and locker room chemistry. Locker room chemistry comes with wins.
