Br4dw4y5ux sums it up perfectly earlier. If he's Westbrook, you lock him up. If he's Bruce Harper, it's a tough decision. Chances are they lock him up either way.

    I hate this guy.

I completely appreciate Leon's position. He's 26 and entering his prime years. If he were to get hurt this year without having executed a new deal, he could be screwed. The knock on Leon from many of the "know-it-alls" is that he is not capable of being an every down back. The same was said about the significantly smaller Sproles, particularly after he broke his leg a while back. With LT coming up lame again last year, Sproles proved able to carry the load for at least part of the season. Leon is bigger and stronger than Sproles. Its not his fault that he was underutilized. He is great talent who is also a dedicated, hardworking team player who, when given the chance, has proven he can win games for the Jets with his home run ability. I have no problem signing him to a 4-5 year deal that gives Leon his peace of mind and gives us his heart and legs. I envision Washington and Greene as being able to provide us with a truly awesome backfield for the next 4-5 years.

I'm positive the Jets are going to pay him, I mean this is going to be a difficult signing with Jones also wanting a new deal, but if the Jets are smart you keep Leon no matter what, Jones will still come out to play this year, L.W. has been the most explosive player the Jets have had in a long time, I could even go out of the way to say he's had just as many good runs as Reggie Bush

    pleasee resign Leon

I believe he said rushing, receiving and returning kicks. That would exclude Welker and Moss, no?

Perhaps they "could" but unlike Leon, they never have and most likely never will whereas, Leon has to be accounted by opposing defenses for in all the ways he can (and actually is)used. In 4 years Welker has a total of 8 carries for 65 yards. I don't think defenses lay awake at night worrying about the 3-4 rushing touches that Welker gets per year on trick plays. Moss has 38 rushes over his eight year career. Like Welker, he has yet to score on any of those either. I think the point here is to distinguish between the "potential" to score either receiving, rushing or returning (the three Rs) which I suppose many players have to varying degrees as opposed to the real "possibility" of scoring while running one of the three Rs which only a select few (including Leon) have.

And Leon is hardly a big threat in the passing game aside from the screen pass which is basically a long handoff. Technically a reverse is a run, so they fit the bill.

Look, I think Leon should be paid, I'm not arguing against that. I just think his agent is playing hard ball for more money than he deserves.

Haha, but yeah, c'mon, the odds are drastically lower since they might get 1-2 Reverse attempts per game.

I understand the agent's premise for the contract. But Twittering it? What a douchebag extraordinaire.

I think he could be a much bigger threat. He only scored two TDs last year. The first was a pretty 18 yd catch and run against KC. The second was against the Pats which was just a 7 yarder but I seem to remember the way he navigated through the trash was pretty special although this could be selective memory on my part. He followed that receiving score with a 90+ yard kick return for another score. My point is that he is legitimately capable of scoring anytime he touches the ball and he would be an even greater scoring threat if his participation in the offensive game plan was increased which, I believe, it will be this year. Welker, BTW, had only 3 receiving TDs last year.

No way the organization lets him get away.
I'm confident it'll all work out.

I hope he is, and I hope it's in a Jet uniform with a nice contract that is fair to both sides of the deal.
