15+ carries would put him in the top 15 running backs of last year in the league. Leon hasn't come close to showing he can handle 15+ carries a game. That's the point I'm making.
It's not nearly as much of a stretch as you're making it out to be. Again, I wrote carries/touches for a reason. Last season, Leon touched the ball 12.5 times per game. However, distribution of those touches was skewed toward returns. The biggest thing that's going to happen is a shift of PR duties to Leonhard. Increase his touches on offense by 6 or 7 per game, and in that situation you're only increasing his total touches by about 3. Not a huge stretch. I'm not looking for him to get 240 carries per game. 150 carries, 50 receptions, 40 KRs (we're hoping to see a drop in his KRs for an obvious, defensive reason) sounds about right to me. Maybe even a bit more on the carries...around 160 - 170.
I agree I think this year (if everything works out well with the contract and stuff) we are going to see Leon and TJ sharing carries except for goal line / short yardage situations when Greene comes in... next year hopefully Greene will be able to share the load with Leon and we'll just need a third back as an insurance for them. I would really like it if this was to happen.
Looking at an average of 30 carries per game I can see this year: TJ 15 LW 10 SG 5 next year: SG 15 LW 10 someone 5 I think this is a good way of managing the rushing offense... this year we can still rely on TJ so let's see how LW reacts to more carries per game and let's give SG time to adapt to the NFL. Next year, hoping everything went well, share the responabilties between LW and SG and bring in a third RB just in case... PS of course this is just an example... if SG plays great straight away give him more carries PPS I wouldn't give LW more than 10/12 carries per game because I think his best asset is KR and I don't want to miss that.
According to NFL Network , Leons agent has said that they have received offers from the Jets, but they are so low , they're almost insulting. C'mon FO , get this done soon
I think they are in the 3 mill per season region... like a 5 year for 18mill... The problem is the agent thinks LW is a feature back, the Jets feel LW is a KR+change-of-pace back... a feature back is worth 5-6 mill per season, a KR+c.o.p is worth not more than 3-4. I really hope we close at something like 5 per 25... maybe with some bonuses if he get's more than say 15 carries per game.
Just found out... guess who was Andre Smith's agent during the combine/draft process? Alvin Keels... this guy seriously is a moron :S
Wow look at TBJF85 trying to get attention over here after being banned from JI, the kid is screwed in the head. After completely degrading this site he wants to come back and post?
Leon needs to be signed to a 3mil per year deal with incentives based on playing time and performance...
Are you kidding me? It's not Leon's fault that Mangini and the coaching staff refused to give the man 15+ rushes a game, because when they did, he made the best of it. Last year, he only rushed the ball 10 or more times during two games. Rams- 12 rushes, 54 yards, average of 4.5 yards per carry. Miami- 10 rushes, 60 yards, average of 6.0 yards per carrry, 1 TD. In 2007, Mangini and company only allowed Leon to rush the ball 10 or more times during two games. Miami- 10 rushes, 68 yards, average of 6.8 yards per carry, 2 TD's. Chiefs-11 rushes, 67 yards, average of 6.1 yards per carry. As a rookie, in 2006, Mangini and company allowed Leon to rush the rock 10 or more times during 6 games. Keep in mind, he was only a rookie. Jaguars- 23 rushes, 101 yards, 4.4 average Miami- 11 rushes, 58 yards, 5.3 average Lions- 20 rushes, 129 yards, 6.5 average, 2 TD's. Bears- 13 rushes, 22 yards, 1.7 average, Raiders- 15 rushes, 53 yards, 3.5 average, 1 TD How can you say that "Leon hasn't come close to showing he can handle 15+ carries a game"? How? Leon has only rushed the ball 15 or more times during three games, that was back in 2006. He had a combined... 58 rushing attempts, 283 rushing yards with an average of 4.8 yards per carry, during those three games, as a rookie...When the coaching staff actually gave him a chance. He also had 3 TD's. How is that "Not coming close to showing he can handle 15+ carries a game? Since being in the league...The coaching staff has only allowed Leon to rush the rock 10 or more times, 9 times. Lets see how he did during those 9 games. 125 rushing attempts, 612 yards, 4.8 yards per carry with 6 TD's during those 9 games.
