If the plan was always to have Smith come tonight then it makes a lot of sense Saleh wasn’t signed. I’m not gonna pretend it just all went great but it definitely makes me feel like this isn’t just a case of us getting everything wrong.
CJ said they are not going to rush it this time and take their time. Maybe they plan to interview all the finalists which could be a long time if Daboll or Bieniemy is on the short list or it could be that Saleh was plan A and now they have moved on to plan B in Smith. But as a Jet fan our history said we always lose out and we are always a bridesmaid. It is hard to ignore that sinking feeling that Lucy is pulling the football out from under us again or that the Great Pumpkin will not show up again. Hopefully JD can prove my instincts wrong and put us on a different path.
So now the OC doesn’t get credit for the scheme he implements? I know you and I don’t see eye to eye on Fields but even that’s too extreme for someone with the football knowledge you have.
that it is. It was Connor Rogers that said what I quoted before and fwiw, he said that the HC hire was going to be one of the 9 interviews already and that they are deciding between 2 whom the committee loves.
Smith as hc I would thinks leans towards Sam staying. I can see him thinking he can deGase Sam just like he did tannehill.
I'm not worried that Saleh was the Plan A and "got away." I read multiple times that the Jets always planned to do several Round 2 interviews this week. Not 100% sure of sources on those, but the dinner with Smith tonight reinforces it. I'll be happy with Saleh, Smith, Bieniemy, Daboll, Brady. Less so with Lewis or Pederson. Not very happy with Wink or Garrett. I'd prefer an offense guy, so Saleh comes in just under the other four up top. I don't have as much skepticism as most of you about Bieniemy.
I’m not sure why people think Pederson is our guy? Wasn’t it reported he didn’t want to listen to his front office in regards to coordinators/coaches. Wouldn’t that signal insubordination towards Howie Roseman who JD was under in Philly and still has close ties with?
Pederson was very much a malleable guy that kept going along with their shit. He got sick of it, especially after he took the hit after pulling hurts. He probably realized that WENTZ sucks and needs to go. Lurie would rather change the HC or bring in a coordinator to rehab his 50 million dollar project.
JD probably worked more closely with Roseman but he may be closer with Pederson/like him better. No way of knowing who he's siding with in the Eagles dispute.
Good for, Pederson. You can't be a high level coach when you got dumbshit FO types acting like they can do your job better. I don't see It as a negative at all. I doubt JD would either.
From what I've read he was fed up with being told who his coordinators should be and was pissed about what happened last offseason when he said his OC would be back only to have Lurie tell him to fire the guy the next day. I've heard from a couple of philly fans that he basically capitulated to Roseman/Lurie all the time and finally grew a spine. If I'm a super bowl winning coach the very least I want is control over my staff and I definitely don't want the GM who has brought in no talent to be picking the guy who might replace me.
Saleh's 2nd in person interview went like this: Saleh: "So I heard we're getting DeShawn Watson". JD: "Woah!!!! Woah!!! Woah!!! Not so fast!" Saleh: "OK....keep me posted" JD: "Where ya going??? Saleh! Saleh! Waiiiiit!!!" LOL probably not. As far as some of the others, now that the by week has come and gone we can't talk to any candidate whos team is still in the POs. Gotta wait!
