It's dangerous to let it drag on that long imo. Potential for the top candidates to get hired before you have a chance to give them an offer.
A lot of early interviews could turn into DC jobs. Marvin Lewis certainly isn't exciting but he's no Adam fucking Gase.
This. That said, I don't want him to be our HC. A coordinator for a first-year HC..... MAYBE. Even then, I rather not.
If the next HC is a first timer and specializes on offense(Smith or Brady), I'd be ok with Lewis as the DC.
Marvin Lewis... Sigh. Formality I hope. If you're going to hire a former HC. How about at least get a former HC that's won a playoff game. Idk... Just my opinion.
Would take lewis in a heartbeat. The reason his teams had so much talent was literally bc of him & his staff.Cincy ownership is stubborn & cheap. The majority of their scouting & player procurement is done by the coaching staff under their model.
I dont think people realize just how cheap Cincinnati is. It is the single hardest place to win at in the NFL
100%. He erased the term Bungles which had ruled them for about 10 years prior to his arrival. They were even more putrid than our beloved Gotham Green.
Gag a maggot. I wouldn't want to hire Lewis, but have no problems with JD talking to a wide range of candidates to help him with his decision, refine in his own mind what he's looking for, to learn (since this is his first HC hire), and/or to glean or learn whatever he hopes to learn from that candidate.
Interesting take, hadn't thought of that aspect. I always think of him as a serial underachiever but maybe a big part of that was the organization.
16 seasons as the Bengals coach without a single playoff win. That is a long time. He is a clear upgrade over Gase (and Bowles) but I am not sure he would fire up the fanbase. He does fit what Douglas/Johnson were talking about this week though. CEO leader type. Hire some young coordinators. Could work out. The Jets would at least be relevant and play hard again. I just think a team that hasn't been to the playoffs in 10 years hiring a guy who hasn't won a playoff game will be a tough sell to the fanbase.
I would be thrilled if Meyer gets selected as the HC of the Jags and fuel great speculation that TL might not be the #1 pick. That will make this board explode with rumors and speculations.
not sure i agree. the fact that he wanted to oversee and meddle a Belicheck HC meant Bill lasted here one day. The rest is history also after leaving the Pats because they didn't let him pick the groceries, he was instrumental in the the brain fart to trade away #1 when it was Orlando Pace so yes credit for a lot of things; perfect hire???
