Jets may not have had a third round grade on any of these "omg can't miss" guys listed in this thread. You trade back in that case and either hope he's there or you deal an assett you got to move up and still end up with an extra pick.
Quite let down about that trade down.. I love the concept, but they should have gotten more than just a 6th round pick. Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
I totally disagree. This makes no sense to me. The point to trade down was early in the draft not now. The talent is dwindling rapidly and at this point they need to be taking the best players they can. How do we have one less pick when we traded down and got additional picks?
He's saying we are going into day 3 with six picks when we started the entire draft with seven. That's a good thing. Also I'm assuming you don't subscribe to the theory that teams are built on day 3?
Yeah sure...for every guy like that 20 6th rounders are special teams guys at best. Macc must have been itching to do trades, cause both the trades down were horrible value and a waste of time. They need quality, not more 45th-52nd players on the roster/special teams guys. He should have gotten something like a 3 next year for moving down half a round.
How are they going to do that if Butt, Leggett, and Sprinkle are all gone, which they very well could be by pick #125.
They probably feel that they can still get a player of similar quality to what they would've staying put, and now get to scratch an extra lottery ticket. I can dig it.
I disagree, especially if getting that STer costs them a TE who can legitimately compete for the starting job.
And they can't find special teamers in FA after the draft? A 6th rounder to move back nearly 20 spots is horrible value. If they were moving back five spots that'd be one thing, but 20 should cost a bit more than a 6. Usually when a team moves down that much they get a higher pick the next year, I'd rather have had that than crap this year.
Kittle, Hodges, etc. There will be good players available, I believe even into the 5th. At least they won't get caught doing what they did last year with Brandon Shell, trading valuable picks next year to pay for now. There's still a lot of good talent available. Sent from my KIW-L24 using Tapatalk
Thanks for the clarification. You're assuming correctly. Many day 3 picks never even make it onto an NFL roster. Missing out on an TE who's worth a crap is a high cost for getting an extra STer or backup at another position, especially when all we have are a bunch of no-names, and ASJ who has problems staying healthy and on the field. I guess we won't be throwing to the TE this year either. Sorry, but unless one of Leggett, Butt, Kittle (and he is a move TE, not Y), or Sprinkle fall to pick #125, this was a totally stupid move imo.
I don't even care about TE since obviously this organization doesn't...but can they at least TRY to fix the OL, or get a corner while you're on a fix the secondary kick?
Why are you assuming that every worthy TE is going to go in the first 18 picks of the fourth round? Let's pretend that were likely, which it isn't, you pick up extra assets to help you move up as well. We traded a 3rd for a 4th and 6th. If we can move up for a 7th, we still end up with an extra 6th. It's a smart strategy. There's a reason every analyst applauds it.
They had Jordan Willis on board - so they traded out, then grabbed Kendell. Somebody, be a good boy and shoot me in the head.
Hodges is not a good player/prospect imo. You have a point about the Shell trade last year. If the Jets had already taken a TE and/or RB I wouldn't have any problem with the trade down, but they haven't. I don't think a "good" player who is a backup DL or STer would help the team as much as a decent TE and another decent RB.
The WR may not start, but he certainly could carve out a meaningful role early.... The safeties will both probably start and play alot.... Sent from my VS987 using Tapatalk
