He can't shadow every receiver in the league anymore. I think the schedule will help him this year in comparison to last year. The shifty quick ones with the great footwork off the LOS really put fear into the heart of Revis. If he wants longevity, Jets could put him on the Charles Woodson plan have him fly around the ball, cover the back-end and generate more turnovers to stat-pad his HOF statistics.
It would be nice if they let Revis be Revis and jam the WR's instead of play 15 yards off like fucking David Barret.
I really don't understand the reasoning behind why they did this, especially in week 17. It's what cost us the game, no questions asked in my mind. I think he's still a top-tier corner in this league for another year or two. He'll make a good safety, no doubt about it. But is he going to accept his role as a superstar on the decline switching positions or is he going to command ridiculous amounts of money? If it's the latter, take a hike.
So Watkins and Nuke can leave him in the dust? Bowles has to change his gameplan against receivers such as those. Anytime Nuke played against press coverage, half the time he ran a deep route. They are simply too fast for Revis. They need to put Dee, Marcus whoever and put a safety on the top. Let Revis take out the guy in the slot or on the other side 1 on 1. I have no issues Revis taking on an AJ Green, but not Hopkins or Watkins.
I think him playing that far off the line had to do more with his wrist injury than anything else. Cant jam anyone when your wrist is all fucked up, and big WRs like Watkins can take advantage of that leverage at the line. I think he bounces back big time this year, assuming no more injuries.
Yeah, but who other than he knows his physical limitations, you know as well as most of us, the body starts to breakdown after a while, especially at that level of football. I'm glad he is not stubborn enough to think he can hang on to what he used to be as opposed to what he is. That's where these players are at fault, they live in the past and think they can play at a higher level than what they can actually play at. I applaud Revis for thinking ahead, however I'm hoping he does not try to make the jets overpay if he transfers over to safety.
A big part of Revis' game has always been to jam the receiver on the line - he disrupted the route at the get go and most receivers from the days of Revis Island mentioned he was the strongest CB they played. After the initial disruption he was able to use technique and the fact they had not released cleanly (also affecting their speed) to mirror them. The wrist injury he had all last year would have had an impact most of us can not comprehend - try getting a friend to run at you and use your hands to redirect if you dont - and see what the impact is like. This injury has even kept him limited this year as they work him back - if fully healed I feel it is 95% certain we get the old Revis back and he could cover most guys like he did before.
No doubt, he has the best technique, I've ever seen from a CB. Father time has caught up to Revis a little bit also, he's not as fast as he used to be. To say he will cover guys like he did before is kind of premature. Bowles has to put Revis in the best situation to succeed. Also, good stuff having a mature reply to the conversation to carry it on.
Revis mentioned this morning on WFAN after the Brandon Marshall injury that his wrist injury was basically the reason he didn't play press coverage towards the end of the year and that he'll get back to it this he's once he's fully healthy. It'll help his game, but I wonder if he still had the recovery speed to mirror a Sammy Watkins or other speedsters because he got burned in one on one deep balls quite often this year. Tough to blame him. No corner in football can play press man one on one against those guys with no help. That's what made him so special in 08-10.
What's to understand. He had surgery on his wrist right after the season. How is he going to jam a receiver with a bad wrist?
I agree with 96. It was game plan. A couple of weeks before that game he was manhandling Dez Bryant. Westoff tried to get the answer about the Buff game last Jets Nation with a loaded question. Revis didn't bite and they laughed...But the truth came out if you ask me in observing how Westoff and Revis bounced around the topic. I think they should've pressured Taylor more also. They sat back on both those guys..... But we left plays all over the field that day
I'm loving these positive reports from camp ... but lets not forget that a lot of these guys are putting up these plays against 3rd stringers so take it all in with a grain of salt
Dan Leberfeld@jetswhispers Watching the first week of Jets practice, I don't think there is going to be a big drop off, if any, from Damon Harrison to Steve McLendon.
