Marshall is getting reps with the 1's. He's also returning kicks. I don't think guys like Spadola, Saunders, Evans (didn't he always stink though?) ever got first team reps and other than Owusu and Saunders, they have no value elsewhere.
I would say there is a chance, but it's slim. Geno would have to outperform Fitzpatrick by a landslide to win back the job.
I think it means we have a good back up QB, and Petty loses that competition, if anything. A day early in camp and beat reporter tweets doesn't mean much....The notion that Fitz is gonna regress is questionable imo
Yeah i meant to write Owusu lol... Evans was trash. But that's whats up though i'm happy we finally have good youth at WR b/c I'm not sold on Devin Smith one bit.
I'm not sold on Devin Smith either, only because of his injury along with Fitzpatrick not having the arm ability to fully utilize his speed/deep play capability. With that said Smith is still very important to our future. We must keep developing him under the likes of Marshall & Decker because come two-three seasons from today, once Hackenburg has an opportunity it's crucial he'll have a 'polished' WR in Smith to work with.
I already was looking forward to the season, but these past few days with all the coverage I've reeeally started to get the football itch...I need it back. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
It seems like such a typical Jets move to cut training camp and preseason standouts ala Danny Woodhead. I'm sure there's more, but I can't think of them off the top of my head. Hopefully this regime proves me wrong and we keep the better football players.
Absolutely. The fact that we didn't invest a high draft pick in a receiver this year shows to me that the coaching staff has high hopes for Smith. He absolutely needs to develop into a quality receiver as I'd imagine Decker & Marshall are gone by the end of 2017 or 2018.
It's not a matter of regression..last year was a career year for him, which would be great if he was a young QB entering his prime...but he's not.
Except that everyone within that franchise wanted Fitz back to be the starter this year, from the top down including the players. He's the starter. There's no competition for the starting QB right now. There's a not uncommon notion on here that Fitz will turn into a pumkin or something and regress into something that he was on some other team, from some other year, from some other time, and crash and burn. I doubt that, imo. It's about giving the team a chance to compete this year and continue what they started last year. If Fitz gets hurt or things go south maybe we'll see Geno after all. And get to know some more about him. Next year is another story for another time. Hopefully Hackenberg shows some improvement and then we can talk about a QB for the future.
I've said it in a couple threads but something tells me Decker is going to be an early retiree. Beautiful wife that makes good money, brand new family, and what looks like it could eventually be a budding reality TV show career. I have a feeling he's going to be one of those guys you say 'wow he's retiring already?' Toss in a concussion this year and next, and I'd say he's done after his contract runs out. Same runs true for Marshall to some extent as he most definitely wanted to come to New York to be closer to the filming of Inside the NFL. I'd imagine he has a bit more motivation to stick around as I'm sure he'd like to experience the postseason a couple times. His skill set transfers to old age though, as long as he can maintain his strength. He's never been a guy to beat defensive backs on speed or quickness, but rather a guy that runs crisp routes and bodies defensive backs around. Think old T.O.
The Jets' 2nd round has been training camp slop for the last 20 years (excluding David Harris, Lamont Jordan). Fwiw, Hackenberg was a top-rated QB prospect who was NE/Brady offense-literate and who only regressed after Bill O'Brien left Penn St. for the NFL. Whether Hackenberg should've been drafted later is pretty much besides the point considering the potential return on the position involved (vs. e.g. Mike Nugent, a PK).
Decker already had a reality show and his wife said they don't see themselves doing it again any time soon. He also has never had a concussion so not sure why you would expect him to have one this year and next. 3 years left on his contract which would put him at 32 years old, don't think that would put him in the "retiring already" group.
I guess it's a somewhat unwarranted claim, I just foresee it happening for some reason. A gut feeling if you will. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on...-eric-to-stop-playing-after-three-concussions This comes to mind^^. And he's been pretty damn lucky in not getting one up until this point especially with how good he is over the middle. Hope it continues.
Training Camp is for a team to bond, get stronger, continue to learn the playbook, and prepare for the season. We all know that. It is also a fun time for fans to go see their team. And the Jets have completely ruined that with their Florham Park camp this year. Now this weekend's practices are going to hot with highs of 95 each day. I hope they consider Hofstra, Cortland, or a place like them for next year. It's better for everyone.
Yep, I loved Hofstra. I loved Cortland too. The Florham Park training facility is not designed for fans though. Clearly.
Hofstra was great, extremely accessible and almost had a carnival atmosphere. I never went to Cortland, but I imagine it was the same way. I don't know what kind of setup Florham Park has aside from cramped and inaccessible, but I imagine it's also far less easy for a Pats employee to sit in a car with a telescopic lens and record every single aspect of a camp practice.
