Understood, I wouldn't panic just yet, Petty was 0-7 one day and the next day he was very good Including an 80 yd td

So the MO should be to automatically distrust anything positive FO says about any of their 1st and 2nd (and 3rd? and 4th?) round picks?
    That makes sense...

That's not really what I said. I think most people would understand that you take the GM's opinion with a grain of salt, with the exception of a few. Obviously Maccagnan thought he saw this, that and the other thing in Hackenberg or else he wouldn't have drafted him in the 2nd round when most boards had him as a 4th round pick (maybe the Pats earlier).

Hard to believe that just one page ago I was being called a homer, huh?

Wasn't "homer" BB's specialty; isn't he gone now?

Anyway... of course you can't trust everything FO says, but auto-poo-pooing is also kinda extreme. Media makes a big deal out of where Hack was drafted. It's the age of instant gratification... 1st rounder -- must start right away.. 2nd rounder -- must start this year.

Fuck it. The kid has potential, and for a change Jets FO is actually developing a QB. Let them work on it; who cares about a couple of bad throws.

It was definitely a BB specialty, but it's also something people fall back on when you have a point and they can't counter it. I love when people do it because they don't realize how easy it is to use the search function to prove them wrong. In this case, it only took one more page for that dumb theory to be proven wrong.

I'm not poo-pooing what Macc says. I'm just saying, of COURSE he's going to gush over a guy he chose in the 2nd. It would be like trying to find the smartest kid based off what their parents think. Honestly, I don't even care all that much about what people have to say because like you said, he has potential and we finally have a FO that's going to handle it correctly. I just think it's a huge risk in the 2nd round when he probably would have been there later on. It's not like he's some college stud that needs to learn the pro offense. He was terrible for a majority of his collegiate career.

1st bolded -- love the comparison.

    2nd bolded -- I don't think so :)
Admittedly with no proof whatsoever, I think Pats would've taken him in the 2nd, or Texans in the 3rd.
Pats -- Brady's getting over the hill. Hack because he was learning their O under their former coordinator. In 2nd because they would be afraid of Texans in the next round.

    How's Darron Lee progressing?

& if this were a QB Comp who is winning the race? Havent heard much about Geno... and haven't heard many positives about Fitz... all i hear about is whats next with his hair and beard.

Lee looks decent but Jenkins has been the best rookie so far. Neither Fitz nor Geno has looked great but neither has looked bad either.

It has been a decade. At least. And I'd like to add Deon Simon (last year's 7th rounder) at NT, - and Jarvis Harrison (last year's 5th rounder) at OG to that list of building young late drafted players.

6 TD's for Eugene yesterday? Solid. I'm sure that opened some eyes, he'll have to build on that to make a case for him starting at some point this year.

Edelman left Patriots practice a day after coming off PUP; threw his helmet down in frustration.

From all the reports (sny coverage and player interviews) it seems like Steve Mclendon will add a new dynamic to this defense. He isn't a space eater like snacks, he's more of a disruptive, penetrating NT. This could make a huge difference in the short passing game and help us match up against teams that implore the no huddle.

What are your thoughts? Could make us suspect with draws and screens. I think we see more 4 man fronts with Rich, Mo, Leo, and Mc. Jenkins, Harris and maudlin as the backers. Lee as the rover, revis and Williams as the CB's and Pryor as the safety.

Wonder if Jalin Marshall and Charone Peake are going to be another case of TC stand outs that don't even come close to making the team... I remember starting to really like guys like Jalen Saunders and Shaq Evans throughout camp then they get dropped after 1st cuts.

I don't want to turn this into another thread debating geno vs. fitz, but the Jets didn't just pay Fitz $12 million to play backup QB. Geno isn't starting unless Fitz gets injured or proves woefully inept.

so say Geno has more performances like yesterday heading into the season... but Fitz continues to strugge or just be OKAY compared to what Geno is doing...

you think theres no chance Bowles sticks to his philosophy that the best man will start like he was preaching last summer?
