they did. It seems like his mindset is get everyone involved early then if they need him late he takes over. I want that mindset from the start.
Johnnies-Providence will be fun as a play-out game. Loser has no shot at the NCAA Tournament. Winner probably gets a First Four game.
Yes it will be. I can't get to the Thursday game. But if they can win (which I think they will) I'll be there SJU/Nova.
I was looking up James Worthy and in 1982, UNC won the title. No surprise because they had Worthy, Sam Perkins, and Jordan (freshman)! They beat Georgetown, which had Ewing as a freshman and also Sleepy Floyd.
Gonzaga blew out St. Mary's three times this season. Lunardi has them as a 9, but I think they'll net a higher seed.
yeah, forgoing his senior season. He was drafted #1 overall. it was the only time in NBA history that a defending champion had the 1st pick. The Lakers might've repeated, but Worthy got injured late in the season (he was Rookie of the Year) and missed the playoffs. He was named the Most Outstanding Player of that tournament. The next year, without Worthy, UNC lost in the regional finals to Georgia, failing to make the Final Four.
they had enough to win w/o him but imagine adding him as a senior r Jordan as a senior in '85?(where they also lost in reg final this time to 'Nova). Dean would have a few more titles more than likely but that was Dean. Always putting the future of his players above his program.
I would guess they made the decision, not Dean Smith. Maybe he gave them advice, but they probably both would've left regardless, considering the draft prospects. Guys projected to go that high almost never stay in school. Luck did stay, he's the only one that comes to mind.
Jordan wanted to go back to school, Dean told him to go. They listened to Dean, the only guy that went against his wishes was Jeff McInnis. If guys were going to be lottery/high 1st rd picks(before lottery era) he recommended they go and his players always listened to his recommendations b/c they knew he had his best interests in mind. Tim Duncan and peyton Manning are 2 more.
Yeah, I was referring to recent years I can remember well. Duncan and Manning were from over 15 years ago. You have to go back to find them. Today could be called the start of March Madness, because the ACC, Big 12, Pac 12, Big East, AAC, and SEC tournament begin today, among others. Big 10 starts tomorrow.
