SJU is the last team in, in Lunardi's Bracket this morning. While last night's game was tough, it's not over yet. They're probably going to have a chance to beat Nova or Creighton in the BET. Win that game and they should be solid shape.
that was from Monday, my guess in his latest one he will have them out but they still have a good shot if they play well down the stretch.
I didn't even look at it, I took it from someone who posted that this morning on the SJU board. Anyways, I agree. They still have Depaul at MSG and @ Marq. The Marquette game is going to be huge.
yeah he updates the bracket every few days They had him on the phone last night during the Kansas State/Texas Tech game. He said he thought K-State would be in even with a loss. As it turned out, they came back and won. He also said he views it as 5 teams for the four #1 seeds, with KU having a chance if they win the conference tournament.
That UNLV team in 87 might have been better than the team that won the title in 90. I could be wrong but I think Mark Wade still holds the record for the most assists in a Final 4 game with like 20 or something and Freddie Banks holds the record for most made 3 pointers in a game with 10. UNLV's 3 FF losses are by like a total of 8 points.... heartbreaking.
That's interesting because that 1990 squad was a great great team. In retrospect, wish you guys had beaten Indiana in 87! _
I looked it up, Wade does still hold the assists record w/ 18. http://fs.ncaa.org/Docs/stats/m_final4/2014/1FinalFour.pdf
Thought this was pretty interesting...Per ESPN STATS & INFO: @ESPNStatsInfo: Of the 11 teams before Wichita State to go 30-0 and play in the NCAA Tournament, 6 won the title, and only 1 failed to reach the Final Four
The 91 team could have been possibly the greatest of all time had they won it all, I think they won like 44 in a row before losing to Dook. People also don't realize that the 91/92 team which was on probation went 25-2 and had won 23 games in a row. They had JR Rider, and Elmore Spencer and not one starter from the 90/91 team. I wasn't around or alive but people who are long time UNLV fans say that the 1977 team was the best team the school ever had. Lost by 1 pt to Carolina in a game in which UNLV had 5 FT attempts to Carolina's 28 or some insane number like that.
I graduated from HS in 1977, didn't get to SU until the 1977-1978 season so I wasn't a college BB fan until then--until I understood what the mania was about up at the Manley Field House Zoo. If there was a better UNLV team than 1990, then wow I missed a great team. Tark was the shit for a long time there. What a program, what a spectacle that must have been to go to one of those games. That must have been an awesome time. _
The Heels escape in OT to run the win streak to 10. Marcus Paige is just an amazing player, carried the team on his back in the 2nd half and OT. after trailing by double digits in the first half and 8 at halftime the Heels chipped away. Had a 2 pt lead w/ State inbounding the ball in their side of the court w/ 1.5 secs to play and Leslie McDonald committed one of the worst fouls I have ever seen on TJ Warren as he grabbed him near midcourt(who should be ACC POY) and he hit 2 FTs to send it to OT. State looked like they were pulling away going up by 6 but the heels battled back to tie and State had one last crack and again a bad foul(this one by McAdoo) sent Warren to the line but this time he hit one of 2 and the only good news w/ the foul was it happened w/ 7 seconds and Paige took the inbounds and went coast to coast for the winner. Thrilling ending in a tough place to play, it is amazing how Carolina has dominated NC State under Roy Williams as State hates Carolina more than duke hates Carolina. I know they don't always have top teams obviously but it's still a tough place to play and this was a big win. Only 3 reg season games left.
10 Wins in a row for the Tar Heels?!?! Just remember who called them making the Sweet 16 before junc did!
I have always hoped you'd be right, if they keep playing well they could go further but I'm not looking that far down the road. I just hope they keep winning. This season s playing out like 1997, I hope they follow the same path.
At that point, they would run into teams that have enough talent that could pick them off. I'm not saying they couldn't win, but it would be tough. The Tar Heels are going to be EXTREMELY dangerous next year. Meanwhile, two losses to Creighton are seriously dampening what could have been a very special season for Villanova. BTW, sorry I haven't been around much. I just started a new job. I like what you all have done with the place while I was gone!
good luck w/ the new job. assuming McAdoo is back I think they will be preseason top 4. If K cons Parker and Hood into coming back duke will be preseason #1 w/ the class they have coming in and they will be head and shoulders the best team in the Country entering the season.
he posted a new one this morning, he has them as his last team in. he has them in one of the play in games as a 12 seed. http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/bracketology
Yup, last team in. Lunardi said today that SJU has to win 3 games, against any opponent to make the Tourney. They will get one of them on Sunday. Just need to find those other two.
