We needed this loss. The worse the better. We've been playing with fire for a while. Time to regroup. _
We've been playing horribly lately. Keita being out/limited is no excuse. They need to grab rebounds in the paint. How many 2nd opportunities is the opposition getting? Also, they left 8 points on the floor with 4 missed point blank shots. I agree w/ Stokes though, they needed to lose to wake up. Hopefully they bounce back Sat.
It's a long season, every team has bad stretches. SU is in one now and will probably lose 2-3 more but they have plenty of time to get it together.
a week+ late but now it's time for the greatest rivalry in American sports to resume. This one is huge for the Heels, if they win they are starting to get in the discussion for a top 4 seed which would be huge. Hopefully they allow McAdoo to play and we don't see the nonsense we have seen the last 2 games. duke is shooting over 40% as a team from 3, Carolina leads the ACC in 3 pt FG defense. it should come down to that and if the Heels can continue to control the boards and get second chance pts.
While I noticed the national title was modified from a certainty to "attainable" this is still emotional claptrap. Let's go back to the scene of the alleged crime: 11:13 left in the game, NC up 66-50. The play in question involves a foul on Kendall Marshall who was driving to the hoop by Crieghton's Ethan Wragge--the video below will show not only that play but a play leading to that on the other end of the court (to show it from a balanced perspective) which involved NC's James McAdoo flattening Creighton's Doug McDermott with a left forearm. After McDermott was sandwiched between NC's Harrison Barnes & McAdoo and sent to the floor by McAdoo, NC guard Kendall Marshall grabbed the loose ball and headed upcourt. Meanwhile, lead-footed Creighton foreward Ethan Wragge is plodding upcourt with his back to the ball and as Marshall approaches the 'paint' on the other end he sees that Wragge has lost sight of the ball (which color commentator Clark Kellogg points out) and while Wragge originally looks to his left, Marshall alertly blows by his right side. Wragge (read: slow, plodding) tries to recover and hacks Marshall while he's in the air looking to lay the ball in, thus Marshall takes a tumble (same as when McDermott was in the air--couldn't "root" to protect himself). Further, the refs didn't even call a flagrant on Wragge, just an in-the-act-of-shooting foul. My point: to call out the entire team by name as "dirty" and to suggest that Wragge had Marshall dead in his sights and was in control and just lying in wait to level him (which would've been 'dirty') is pure artifice. Frankly, a loose ball foul could've very easily been called on McAdoo's shiver. Dirty play by McAdoo? No, just a hard loose ball foul imo, part of the game. Same with Wragge except that he was lost on the play and clumisly tried to make up for Marshall beating him down the lane en route to the hoop: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=8sbWdA85lXg#t=3705
Yeah- I don't think Keita being out is any excuse at all. Fair just isn't playing well, Cooney has cooled off after hitting 9 threes that night, and can Christmas hit a 2 foot jump hook please? Boeheim is going to kill them over the next 3 days. _
John Henson had an injured wrist, a Creighton player took multiple whacks at it after the whistle earlier in the game then winked at the sideline. their gameplan was to be dirty, not just physical. Physical is one thing, dirty is another and on the Marshall play the Creighton player pushes him w/ his off hand as he was off balance. dirty play that robbed Carolina of a title chance.
Jstokes, did Syracuse fire their equipment manager prior to the game? junc, don't our beloved Jets call that "hot sauce?" ;-) NC did have a nice, easy path with a #16, #8 and a #13 seed thanks to Ohio U. blowing up that bracket (goodbye Mich/Temple). Question is even if they got past Kansas were they beating Kentucky who already beat them earlier that year?
Awful awful awful look. The students were not happy. Funny, just bought my son an authentic Nike Orange CJ Fair jersey yesterday and then last night they wear the new throwbacks. Don't love them. Hate them with the mismatched shorts. _
they almost beat Kansas w/ Stillman White(a 3rd/4th string PG who was a freshman). they would have cruised to the FF and I think they would have beaten UK but at worst they would have had a great shot.
10 minutes in, already a phantom call on McAdoo, the biggest flop you will ever see then Parker fouls McAdoo which would have been his 2nd and they give it to another player. McAdoo doesn't foul and keeps getting called the last few games, it wasn't close w/ the foul on Parker and they don't call it on him. Just pathetic.
duke player doesn't get touched, falls down- offensive foul on Carolina. duke player drives to basket knocks over stationary Carolina player, gets basket and foul. typical duke BS
this is such a joke, contact as duke steals the ball no call, duke goes down court, barely contact and 3 pt play chance w/ key player going to bench w/ 3 fouls(2 complete BS)
McAdoo called for 2nd foul, both are complete BS- even vitale said parker could have been called for the offensive foul. he goes to the bucket a minute ago w/ major contact and nothing. minor contact on D and here come the whistles
