The BE has been better recently w/o a doubt but overall in the last 30 + years the ACC has been MUCH better. who are the additions again?
^ Agree that the tournament has had a lot of ugly games. No standout stars really and some terrible play. I was actually talking to my friend that the shot clock in college might have to be lowered to 30 or 28 or something less than 35 which seems to be too long now. Agree UL has to be considered the favorite. Also agree Big East has been better recently. Don't remember much of the ACC dominance, too young for that.
look at those #s I posted, it should help you understand how much better than ACC has been overall. I agree w/ you about the shot clock. They need to lower it down to 30 secs.
you think that replaces UConn, Louisville, Syracuse? Butler may be a top program here to stay and could be like UConn was in the early 90s building towards becoming a multiple champion but Creighton and Xavier are good mid majors but nothing more.
I'm just speaking to the discussions I've been involved in. And from what I remember, it was usually about which conference was the better conference that year, not historically. They've been the favorite since before the tournament began. They're considered an even stronger one now. Last I saw, they were like -140 to win the title. But Michigan and Syracuse are both pretty talented.
Obviously overwhelmingly deserved, and should have been done within 30 minutes of that video coming out. One point with respect to the comparisons with Bobby Knight - you have to also take into account the general views on such things. I don't believe Knight would be able to get away with the things he did if he was coaching now, even given how successful he was. Physical abuse of students is simply not tolerated now the way it used to be (and the homophobic comments didn't help either). I think Knight's coaching career shows that he understood this - he assaulted Neil Reed in 1997 at IU without being fired, but when he only grabbed Kent Harvey in 2000 he was fired two days later. At Texas Tech there was the much less serious Michael Prince incident, but otherwise he kept his hands off of his players and other students. Don't get me wrong - there is no question that successful coaches get more rope to hang themselves with, but there are some things that used to be viewed as coaches "making men out of boys" that are now viewed as justification for lawsuits or even illegal, and they're just not tolerated any more.
Rutgers was pretty slow about this whole thing. It took them until this morning to bow to public pressure? The people in charge must not be very bright if they couldn't see what the video would do.
I saw the numbers, it doesn't help replace the memories I personally have which are the Big East going strong. I believe you the ACC is historically more dominant, my college BBALL memories are Big East being strong, Duke flopping and totally changing the idea of a charge/block in college, and Calipari producing NBA players. Yeah that game should be fun. I really have no rooting interest in any of the game, I just hope they stay close. I like watching Louisville and feel for them losing Ware, I like the underdog story of the shockers (and it's a lock if they win Nantz says "The shockers have shocked the world"), I like Cuse even though I'm indifferent on the zone, and I like that Burke kid on Michigan. Good points and it shows some problems with the NCAA structure. Some reaction from NBA players, and if you read Battier's take on the situation, he points out some fatal flaws in the NCAA system that denies players from doing anything really. http://www.sbnation.com/nba/2013/4/3/4180234/mike-rice-rutgers-nba-player-reaction
What I found to be kind of shocking was that Rice came with the high recomendation of Bob Hurley Sr a HOF coach who if you read the book out about St Anthony's basketball is def. an old school guy. I don't think he ever would go as far as Rice did which is totally unacceptable but when thinking of Hurley one must remember his real job was that of a parole officer. He saved a lot of kids but my guess there probably were quite a few that would have loved to go Sprewell on him too. This statement is exactly why I took issue with ESPN and their hypocricy. In the OTL interview one of the reporters named a kid who is in counseling. Pernetti tried to say he felt it was wrong that they named the kid in such a personal matter but in this case the research team at ESPN failed to do their jobs as Neil Reed committed suicide. Go ahead though, continue to employ Knight who was just as horrible as a person as Rice is. You are probably right though in that this day and age that probably wouldn't be tolerated and probably shouldn't.
Thanks, this is one of those unexpected runs that do not happen often. I have thought they had the talent but just not preformed up to it since the middle of January. I think the Michigan/SU matchup is a good mix of styles. SU gets out on shooters and Burke is not that big so hopefully our big guards can take him a little off his game. They have alot of different scorers so they will test the zone. The zone cannot be duplicated in practice and I hope it is effective Saturday. SU will need to have a big offensive games out of Southerland and Fair. MCW seems to be really tough on shorter guards near the basket. I think he will get his because he is a really good passer if defenders come to help on his drives.
Starting to hear some good news w/ regards to the heels getting Wiggins. I'll believe it when I see it but hopefully it happens.
I totally agree with you. However, Creighton and Xavier are now in a conference dedicated to College Basketball, with a national television contract. They have the opportunity to generate more attention to their program than ever before.
Creighton has always had good (not great basketball) and the same with Xavier however they both have good coaches in place and as you said a real TV contract that will help both programs tremendously. A little off topic but what is going on with the CAA for football? They just lost James Madison who is jumping up to D1 apparently. They've already lost Georgia State, ODU and Umass. Any chance Nova joins GTown in the Patriot? It's a very PA centric conference with Lehigh, Bucknell and Lafayette.

Great day for UNLV as Jerry Tarkananian has been elected to the Basketball HOF in Springfield, Mass. I've been fortunate enough to meet Jerry a few times and he is a good guy, very humble and he loved the game and this city. I think what Tark's legacy will be more than the towel is his abaility to walk into the inner city in his cowboy boots and bald head and give kids a 2nd chance on life, they didn't always go well ie; Lloyd Daniels but he saved quite a few kids from going down a bad road.
And a strange story now with UNLV.... Mike Moser to transfer to Washington? http://www.cbssports.com/collegebas...unlvs-moser-likely-transferring-to-washington
