that gonzaga cover was a regional one, no? They usually have covers for different parts of the country. For the West, they'd do Gonzaga because they're the highest seed out there.

In recent years they have had that collage w/ players/coaches/mascots/cheerleaders from every team. This is a regional cover, they did the same thing w/ IU, UL and SU.

    pretty funny

    A #1 vs. a #8 and they play on #8s home court.

middle tennessee and st. mary's shouldn't be in a play-in game

both are capable of beating the "big shots"

too bad one will be out.

On the other end of the spectrum, you had Liberty/A&T. A&T won in a tight finish and will be routed by Louisville.

Lucky Jones attempted to clothesline Archie Goodwin on a breakaway

    ejected

I think they ruled flagrant 2

edit: UK makes a big late comeback but Poythress screwed up defending the inbounds under the basket, leading to RM getting FTs

that forced UK to have to hit a shot with 8 to play and a heave 3 missed

If anyone can enlighten me on this subject, I'd greatly appreciate it. How come both St. Mary's and Middle Tennessee are having a play in game for an 11-seed? Aren't both teams better than teams that are seeded 12 - 15? Shouldn't they have a shot at the round of 64 without playing this game first?

The first 4 games are between the 4 lowest at large bids and the 4 lowest conference champions...

Those two schools listed are among the 4 lowest at large bids, hence they play in a First Four Game...

The play in games should be the weakest 8 in the tourney fighting to play the #1 seeds.

Interesting history w/ regards to Roy Williams and UNC.

For the UNC program they have been an 8 seed 2 times in their history and both times made at least the Sweet 16.

1990 defeated #1 Oklahoma in rd 2 to reach sweet 16(lost to Arkansas in Sweet 16)

2000 defeated #1 Stanford in 2nd rd to reach sweet 16 and would win 2 more games to reach Final Four.

Roy Williams has never lost an opening round game(what they used to call 1st rd and now call 2nd rd). While he has mostly been a 1 or 2 seed you still have to win the games, we saw two 2 seeds go down in the opening rd last year.

1990 2 seed, beat UK's arch rival Robert Morris 79-71
    1991 3 seed, beat New orleans 55-49
    1992 1 seed, beat Howard 100-67
    1993 2 seed, beat Ball State 94-72
    1994 4 seed, beat Chatanooga 102-73
    1995 1 seed, beat Colgate 82-68
    1996 2 seed, beat SC State 92-54
    1997 1 seed, beat Jackson State 78-64
    1998 1 seed, beat Prairie View A&M 110-52
    1999 6 seed, beat Evansville 95-74
    2000 8 seed, beat Depaul 81-77(OT)
2001 4 seed, beat Cal St Northridge 99-75
    2002 1 seed, beat Holy Cross 70-59
    2003 2 seed, beat Utah State 64-61
    2004 6 seed, beat Air Force 63-52
    2005 1 seed, beat Oakland 96-68
    2006 3 seed, beat Murray State 69-65
    2007 1 seed, beat Eastern KY 86-65
    2008 1 seed, beat Mt. St. Mary's 113-74
    2009 1 seed, beat Radfod 101-58
    2011 2 seed, beat Long Island 102-87
    2012 1 seed, beat Vermont 77-58

    In 22 tourneys(1990-2012)
    10 1 seeds
    5 2 seeds
    2 3 seeds
    2 4 seeds
    2 6 seeds
    1 8 seed(2nd this year)

    he's better than I thought

I like the idea of "at large" teams in the play in game. I actually think all the play in games should be that way. When they only had the one I felt it toook away from a school like Liberty who earned the right to get demolished by Louisville. Instead Liberty gets to play NC A&T. I don't think I've ever hid the fact that I'm a homer for the non power conference schools so while I am disapointed Boise and LaSalle will play tonight and only one will get the shot to play giant killer without the play in game both would be in the NIT so I'm happy with the format.

I'm more upset about the fact that Bucknell has to play Butler in the 1st round. I still think these "logistical" issues the committee chair was talking about was determining how to get as man non majors out early as possible. I love Bucknell but they should not be seeded higher than Oregon or Ole Miss.

And I'm supposed to believe that Jay Wright is going to out-coach Roy Williams? Puh-leeze!

I think it is a toss up game(as it should be w/ an 8 vs. 9). I expect to win but it wouldn't be shocking if 'Nova won.

Why are Tuesday/Wednesday now referred to as "Round 1"? I know it happened once they went to 68 in the field, but why push this new name change? The teams are still playing to be in the bracket of 64
