The Jets will run off a string of victories in the second half due largely to the teams remaining on their schedule. I can actually see them winning 6 of the 7 games between the Jags and the second Miami game ( most likely 5 ). They just simply have too many holes to seriously contend for a playoff spot. I see 7 wins - maybe 8 if everything goes right. But it will send the franchise into a positive mode going into the offseason - not to mention the valuable experience Darnold will gain. Let the young vets learn how to close out games - then add some decent talent ( OL! ) in the offseason.....
Shell isn’t a left tackle. I think moving edoga to the left and keeping shell at right if Beachum can’t go would be better for everyone involved.
I’m not predicting that they go to the playoffs. I only said they will contend for a playoff spot if they improve the running game. Right now it just isn’t good enough. As we sit here today, I agree that we are a 7-8 win team. If they find a running game though, it will improve the play of the entire team. Defense would benefit and the offense obviously needs it.
Yes the OL was a big reason the Jets won the game. As I have said over and over again, you can not have a good offense without an offensive line.
Think you've got to look at that both ways. Darnold's ability to manouvre within the pocket and escape from it when necessary helped them look better for sure. Falk's utter inability to do either made them look worse than they probably were too. The biggest difference was probably due to Sam's ability to organise them though, something else Falk seemed incapable of doing. They still can't run block though. That needs to improve without doubt.
I am glad you see the common sense. In this all about the QB league, it seems to me the OL play is always ignored. The Patriots have benefitted from probably the best OL coach in the history of the game. This has given Brady a decent OL every year. Dak Prescott doesn't look so good without an offensive line, does he? Why is Mahomes all of a sudden not looking so great? If the jets are going to beat the Pats, they must take advantage of a beat-up OL.
A lot of the Pats OL woes can be masked by the fact Brady gets the ball out faster than almost anyone in the league. Not to discredit Scarnecchia and the work he does because every year it seems like the Pats LT leaves for monster contract and they just plug someone in to refill those shoes without missing a beat.
I was travelling but still caught a piece of the game. Hopefully, NFL network has it this week. Great that the OLine finally showed up and kept Sam in one piece. Finally earned their game checks.. Seems they still have to work on finishing games but all in all, a great and badly needed win!
too lazy to look but i would say OL and CB have been the most drafted positions during the BB era......with the idea that the more u draft the better chance u find someone to stick. same with parcells. yes there have been a few years where their OL and secondary have been less than average BUT those are easily overcome by the great TB and on defense, the pass rush.
I know you didn’t predict playoffs. I’m just adding my 2 cents. I hope they can find their running game but the way the line is currently structured I doubt it. Lewis and Odega have played well so far but they need other new additions and probably won’t see them until next year. The good news is Douglas seems to know what he wants. And at least Bell has kept his cool - so far anyway.
