No, the knee jerk reaction would be screaming "FIRE SCHOTTY/CUTESY/SHITTY!!!" every time that the Jets throw an incompletion. Noting all of the debilitating factors which you mention would be thinking things through. As for your point about interceptions I am in full agreement that the Jets turn the ball over too much. But I think that it has far more to do with rookie Sanchez, injured Favre, and horrible Clemens getting so many starts than any inherent problems with the scheme. Frankly, Schottenheimer is far from the best offensive coordinator in the league but he's coming back next season. Everyone should probably start getting used to that idea.
Chad Pennington threw 25 Int's in 492 pass attempts in Schotty's system. He has thrown 39 Ints' in 1139 attempts everywhere else. Doesn't the 5.1% interception rate in Schotty's system vs the 3.4% everywhere else tell you something about that system? Every QB the Jets have used in the last 4 years has failed in this system. Some of them coming back brilliantly the following year as soon as they were liberated from it. Yes, the internet is full of theories that have no bearing on real life. Schotty's record however backs this one up fully.
I think if we make the playoffs we are stuck with BS for the next 2 years.[/QUOTE] I have more confidence in Ryan than this. It will be a friendly parting but there will be a parting of the ways between BS and the Jets after this year.
Funny, just read on ESPNs stockwatch thingie that Schotty's stock is rising because of his conservative management of Sanchez. Opinions all over the place.
Brian Schottenheimer although puzzling at times is not the worst OC we could have. To be fair he has a rookie QB and has given us the number one rushing offense. Im not a fan of schotty but its not crazy that he could improve drastically. With more time working with the players he has he might be able to better learn how to utilize them and put them in better positions to succeed. If we make it to the playoffs this year I feel that he will be given one or two more years and a lot can change in that time (see Eric Mangini).
