This can be problematic for younger QBs, but less so for veterans. Since Sanchez is still in the "younger" camp, it would be imperative that the Jets brought in an OC whose system wasn't too far afield from Schottenheimer's system. Then the transition shouldn't be too difficult.

The problem with retaining Schottenheimer is that I'm not convinced that he learns lessons or learns from his mistakes. I think he tries to be "too cute" or clever and winds up screwing the Jets in the process. He needs to stick more to basics, i.e., making sure the rushing attack is solid; getting the plays in on time; making sure the offense is disciplined to cut out the stupid delay of game, illegal procedure, & illegal formation penalties; designing game plans that take advantage of or attack opponents' weaknesses; scripting plays to insure that Sanchez gets into a groove right from the start (easy short passes to build confidence and get the chains moving); not killing Sanchez' momentum by inserting Brad Smith and the Wildcat; stop being so predictable in all playcalling, but especially the Wildcat formation (try running left and passing); have fewer formations, but more variations from each formation; stop running plays that never work; and make use of all pass routes (throwing more passes over the middle).

IMO all those things undermine any value or gain from continuity. He has shown some improvement over the years, but not that much, so I have little hope that there will be marked improvement on these things next season.

I wholeheartedly agree with getting rid of Schottenheimer. As good/great as Rex is, I have my doubts whether the Jets will ever get to or win the SB as long as Schottenheimer is the OC. His offense is supposed to be complex. Bring in someone with a somewhat similar system if possible, yet one that is simpler so that Sanchez can focus on accuracy and making better decisions, instead of all the complexities and subtle nuances of Schottenheimer's system.
