I couldn't think of anything creative and I was a dumb HS freshman that thought "Hey this sounds cool". Now I cringe every time I look at my handle but it's too late to change it.
Gasteneau and Klecko my all time favorite jets! Boy it was super exciting to watch the jets play back then!!! Oh the memories. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Then you'd probably appreciate this bit of DeBusschere minutiae - not too long before his death my daughter worked in the pro shop of a golf club where he was a member and says he was a very good guy to all the people there. The local high school had won the state basketball championship that year and he was aware and asked her about it a couple of times. When spring came one of the players on the team started caddying and when DeBusschere found out about it he asked to have the kid do his loop. When he made the turn after the front nine DD stopped for refreshments (as usual) and sent the kid in to the pro shop to get a disposable camera and took pictures with him. He also told him he couldn't play golf with his big fat ring on so he asked the kid to wear it for the round - yeah, a big fat NBA Championship ring.
At first I was like, I want a cool name! But then I was like, Nah, I don't deserve a cool name. I'll just be twown. But then I got legit cancer, and the doctors were like, "You're very brave, Green Hornet." I guess they called me Green Hornet because of my bravery in the face of cancer? I don't know. But that's how I eventually became Green Hornet.
Why don't you just admit that you don't think the guy who gave the AFL respect forever was special Rale Prolific posting doesn't mean you are right ya know
Lived in KY my whole life, been a Jets fan since the late 90's/early 00's. Pretty cut and dry for me lol
That is a great story, and consistent with everything I ever read about him. I attended Dave DeBusschere night at MSG in 1974, right before he retired, and a friend and I carried a banner around the court saying "Thanks for the memories" with a picture and a #22 jersey on it during warmups (presumably you can't get courtside like that any more!). He saw it, waved, and shouted "Great banner!" to us, a great thrill to an 18-year-old fan. Bill Bradley wrote about that night in a piece he wrote for the New York Times when they retired his jersey (https://www.nytimes.com/1981/03/22/sports/views-of-sport-dave-debusschere-a-friend-s-memory.html), in which he refers to the deafening "De-fense" chants when Dave was called to the microphone to speak. I remember that vividly, and it still gives me chills.
Barfolomew, barf for short. Straight out of space balls. Also, when i was young i would get so uoset at this team they would make me want to barf.
In all fairness we really did not start ruining QBs until recently. I would only really say we ruined Sam, Mark. Penny was injury the Jets did not ruin him. Petty and Geno and Hack where never going to be good.
