Yes, I agree. He missed work in camp and pre-season from what i read, due to the suspension, so that rolled into it as well.
Which goes along with my point, that having the lead dramatically improves defensive efficacy. The best offenses get the lead early, forcing opposing offenses to be more one dimensional. Remember the 2011 Pats, they had a terrible defense but still went to the Superbowl and finished among the top of the league in takeaways. Their defense was not good for most of the game, but Brady mostly had a healthy lead forcing opposing offenses into turnover prone situations.
Winters has beat out Aboushi in three straight camps, with two different coaching staffs. despite looking lost at times during that tough stretch of games last year, Winters is a much better prospect at G. the more surprising thing to me is Dozier keeping his slot over Aboushi. they must like his upside at C. and Qvale can play T, so Aboushi was the odd man out. not enough position versatility.
I just hope it translates to his game eventually. I thought for sure they'd cut Winters instead of Aboushi but they must see something that we all don't. For once, however it does look like our line is strong. Hopefully they can keep it up.
Bump. Only because Aboushi was called out for playing well Sunday while Winters made unknown Eagles d- lineman look like a hero. Could be an issue against Suh in London http://blog.chron.com/ultimatetexans/2015/09/newcomer-oday-aboushi-shines-on-texans-offensive-line/
You know, I like a lot of the things Macc has done in his first year, but so far his approach to the Oline and TE positions have been reminiscent of Terry Bradway.
From Maccagnan back in April on the eve of the draft and his thoughts on building an offensive line: “I think historically when you look at teams that are successful, one of the things that they do in the draft is they find value in offensive linemen prospects that they can kind of groom and develop. They don’t have to always be high picks,” he said. “A lot of teams are very successful building good offensive lines through the draft through picks from the third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh round and sometimes even college free agents.” At the same time I hope he's not altogether adverse to grabbing a blue-chip mauler before "the third, fourth, fifth, six, etc…"
By all means,if others saw something different maybe i'm wrong...but I was watching Winters closely expecting a horror show & was surprised.I thought he was mostly stout in pass pro & played well. Are you referring to the tipped int? Certainly Suh is a whole nother' assignment but against in the Eagles in relief, I did not think he performed badly at all.
It was never a smart move to cut a guy who started something like 13 games for the team last year. And at a position where you can never have enough depth.
Yeah I'm referring to that tipped interception. He got beat pretty bad. Just brought up bad memories like last year in Green Bay - remember him getting pile driven which lead to the interception to sudfeld and turning point of that game
I think that would really test whether or not he really stands behind the BPA mantra or only sticks to it for defence and offensive skill positions. I'm really interested to see how these next few drafts go as far as building a core going forward.
No doubt he's had a troubled past on the field. I thought the tipped Int. was more of a passed off assignment/miscommunication between he & Giacomini but the notion of him getting beat is nothing new or any big shock. I am still hoping he can continue developing & become the starter he was drafted to be.
The fuck? Wayne Hunter started 16 games in 2011. Should that have meant he stayed on the team in 2012?
