I hope all three plus adding sancheeze get cut and sign someone who gets cut that's better! I hate all our current backup's.
This guy better learn to play guard and left tackle if he wants to be on the roster week one. As of now I think he is too slow and stands too upright.
Agree as far as OL.....u are set when u anchor ur line with day one picks, not day 3 picks. I would say we have to start thinking about life after brick and mangold as early as next year.
I had Aboushi in 2 of my mock drafts as a 2nd or 3rd round pick (before the combine). before he had a poor combine he was generally regarded as a boarderline 1st round pick, but fairly solid 2nd round prospect. He fell rapidly after a bad combine.
We already have anchored our OL w/Day1 Picks. We don't need day 1 OL picks at all. We need to replace matt f'n slauson and BMoore. We need to improve at LG and RG. Vlad, Colon, Winters, Peterman, Aboushi will compete to earn those two spots - should be interesting. Mangold is a 29 yr old All Pro Center he easily has 5-7 more productive seasons. DBrick is a 29 Y.o. All Pro LT who easily has 5-7 more productive seasons. Its too early to think about life after either one of 'em. Give them some good OGs and watch the Jet OL go right back to kicking ass and taking names like it did 2 yrs ago.
My sister went to school with Aboushi's sister. She just texted me saying my friend just posted that her brother got drafted by the Jets. I am surprised...Hes got local roots and is a real Jets fan. Congrats to him, I told my sister to tell Aboushi's sister that he was a good pick up among us Jets fans. Oday is a dedicated muslim background and is very grounded apparently. Should be a hard worker
Ok his sister went to same college as me and my sis, St Johns. It all makes sense. I think someone here mentioned hes from Brooklyn.
Had him slated. I love it. Im a huge fan of the OL picks. I dont know a ton about any of them but I like youth in the trenches, been some time for us.
predictionmachine.com has him ranked really high predictionmachine.com/nfl-draft-2013-top-5-offensive-tackles-joeckel-fisher predictionmachine.com/Features/NFLDraft Have him at pick#44
I've said before, I'll say it again. I have no problem at all with the draft of Aboushi, in fact I like it and think it's a value pick. He was a combine faller. Prior to the combine he was regarded as a solid 2nd round, and possible bottom of the 1st round, caliber player based on what he had done on the field and his game films. He dropped dramatically after a poor combine. This is exactly the type of player I like the Jets to draft in the 4th and later rounds, guys who were rated highly for their production on the field prior to the combine and then fell dramatically after the combine. Combine numbers are nice for making slight adjustments up or down and to differentiate between two players of roughly equal field skill level. But I am always against drafting someone who's stock rises substantially at the combine and almost always for drafting someone who's stock fell dramatically after the combine. Both cases are nearly always over reactions based on how well a player did on a one or two day period of time. Give me field play from a full career any day of the week over workout numbers in those cases
Which Super Bowl did we appear in with Faneca and Woody? It must have slipped my mind. Th eGi-aints won a SB with day 2 and 3 OLmen in a few positions
The combine isn't the only reason he dropped. Anyone watch the senior bowl? He was taken to school in that game. It wasn't pretty.
It's going to be 2016 before either of them is on the hot seat. The cap numbers on D'Brick say he has a Vinny-esque soft landing coming in. Mangold is just too good to let go unless he suffers a potential career-defining injury. I could see D'Brick getting cut as a cap casualty in 2016 if he and the Jets can't work something out that year. $10.375M in compensation that year with only a $3.75M hit if he gets cut. Mangold's total cap figure in 2016 is $8.6M and I doubt the Jets cut him on that.
