Revis was coming off a Super Bowl and the Pats were also hot and heavy to re-sign him. His skills were not diminished yet and he had a very solid first year back. We were able to move on after 2 years also, so the commitment wasn’t long term. Bell was an excellent sign. Not his fault Gase is an idiot that won’t leverage his skills especially in the passing game. Maybe the next coach will, hopefully next year. But OBJ......hell nah. I wouldn’t trade anything for him let along lock in a big contract.
Revis got torched several times in his return. He had a couple more picks but he was no longer the Revis we knew that didn't need safety help. I don't think the Pats wanted him back at all. He went there at a more affordable rate to get his ring and leave and worked with them to run his price up. Bad signing and clogged up funds that could've been better used on longer term pieces. Bell is tops in the league in runningback receptions. It's not a lack of useage issue. If you want to debate the rest, we can. But he's getting the ball. We should probably split him out a bit more than we do. Again. Funds allocated the wrong places.
Good point. Not too long ago we took a shot at Decker and Marshall, both considered past their prime and resulted in a terrific improvement at the WR position. A Marshall type could do wonders for Sam, especially in the red zone.
Eric Decker was 26 going on 27 when we signed him. I don't think he fits that category. Marshall definitely does. But he hit the downslope immediately after that first year and that's sort of the issue. But the points are certainly valid. There are other examples though that don't work out so well. Andre Johnson, Demaryus Thomas, Roddy White, Chad Ochocinco, Torry Holt, Wes Welker. The magic number is right around 31-32 where the decline goes from yardage in the thousands into the seven hundreds and a quick retirement will follow. There's some that can do it and some that cannot. Larry Fitzgerald re-invented himself. So did Isaac Bruce and obviously the immortal Jerry Rice. The issue is that when it's over for a lot of these guys it's just over extremely quickly. A year of decline and then essentially retirement or you're going to be present day Demaryus Thomas. Limping through seasons as the #3.
Decker was not considered past him prime. The "knock" on him was whether he could be as productive without Peyton Manning throwing him the ball. And he was
To an extent he was. I think he could've been productive for a couple more years too. He was a bit of an odd ball case because his wife pressured him into retirement and he was ok with it and ok with being a reality star.
Best case is you sign AJ Green, then draft a receiver in the 2nd or 3rd like Justin Jefferson. Of course bring Robby back and dedicate the rest of your time towards OL / CB / EDGE
This is why we need to draft a WR who can be with us for the next 5-10 years. Good WR's usually don't become FA's in their prime.
Every game that I watch Alabama play I never see Jeudy make a catch(I do not watch that much college football). I have seen him make a lot of drops and then both Tua and his backup go to the other guys. Maybe I have only seen his bad games. Ruggs Jr seems to make more plays when I am watching
WR depth in this upcoming draft is stacked. It would be a very SOJ like move to trade for OBJ this off-season. Not worth it at all.
I want both OBJ and Antonio Brown. We are a circus anyway. Maybe this will work out. Half kidding only.
If you want full-circus mode, how can you leave out Kaepernick and Manziel? The media would go into am orgasmic frenzy with all its click-bait all-stars on one team.
