It was only a matter of time before his BABIP regressed to the mean. Plus, it helps that he's healthier than he's been all season. Carmona's out of the game already. This lead may be AJ-proof.
I said the other day to Don to give Granderson a couple more weeks. He needed to get healthy. We should remember he had a very good start before getting hurt and having to basically start the season all over again. AJ looked good again last night. When he gets his curve working he's elite. When he doesn't, he's a #5 at best. He's such an enigma, but when you get good AJ you get a really good AJ. How about Tex? Hitting through the shift. He's really turned it around. I don't want to hear anymore BS about Swisher's ability to play right field. He has greatly improved out there. He put extra work in and it has really paid off. Even Joba had a relatively decent outing. He looked fatigued though. Unreal. Even the loss of his job wasn't enough to motivate him to get in shape. Granted, it's only been a few days, but come on. And how about ARod? Pursuing 600, but even though he's now set a record for most attempts to get 600 without doing it, and has surpassed his season-high at-bats without a home run, he's still driving in runs. More than that, he's truly saying the right things in the postgame ("We're doing great as a team." "I just want to help this team win.") From everything I'm reading, Alex seems to have really bought into the whole "We're not individual superstars, we're a team" concept. Getting outted for steroids may have been the best thing to have ever happened to him.
he hit what was going to be an infield single towards the 2nd baseman, who tried to put a glove on it and knocked it away, granderson just rounded first and headed right to 2nd. great game. moseley pitched well, and the offense dominated once we broke it open.
Hopefully Cashman can contain himself and not go out and trade for another Park before the deadline but I wouldn't count on it.
Speaking of Park, I really want him DFA'd already. It's painful to watch him pitch. Between Park, Gaudin and Joba I'm not sure my heart can take it. Moseley actually looked pretty good. I honestly didn't think he'd pitch well, and granted it was only Cleveland, but he was alright. Toronto should be a little more interesting, though he should be able to beat them too. After that, Andy should be back, or at least I hope so. Days-wise, he'd line up for a start against Boston. Games-wise, he'd face Texas. I assume Moseley will go back to the pen, and if he can keep this up, he might make a nice fill-in for Hughes late in the year. At least he'd be a nice option with Mitre in middle relief. Mitre, Moseley, Logan in the middle, DRob in the 8th, Mo in the 9th. Not bad. That doesn't bode well for the two guys I despise or Joba though. I wonder when Mitre is slated to return. Honestly, at this point, I'm not sure the Yankees need to make any moves. If a deal falls in their lap, sure, but overall I don't see any reason to make any real efforts to get something done. Oh, and if I ever see Marcus Thames in the infield again I may go on a violent rampage.
ESPN front page WAHHHing about the Red Sox http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=simmons/100729 This is basically an article asking: Why aren't the Red Sox in contention? As if they were entitled to it... ...2 Championships can make you forget 80 years non-contention?
ESPN (I assume that is Onley) says Dunn is going to one of two AL teams. I guess that must be the Yankees and whoever actually gets him.
I liked Bill Simmons a lot better when he was still a real Red Sox fan--although his Boston homerism annoys me, he takes a very logical, nuanced, entertaining stance on sports. He's pretty much the poster boy for fans who lost interest in the Sox after they finally won the World Series though.
and? It was still polluting the front page...it read more of like a Page 3 type of article...that was my point. Also, rotoworld has listed the Yankees in the hunt for Dunn.
Bill Simmons is one of their marquee writers, of course everything he does is put on the front page. Would you have been happier if it was a Yankee article?
As IATA mentioned, his columns are always on the front page. And I didn't really take what you took from it. I didn't see it as whining about how they should be winning or in contention. He just broke down why he thought people weren't interested in the Sox this season. Although I do disagree with his breakdown. Bandwagon fans and the injuries are responsible for a lot more of the lack of interest this year than the length of games. That, and they're just not very likable. My wife's a Sox fan, and there isn't one player on the team who she really likes aside from Wakefield. The rest, she's either ambivalent about (Drew, Martinez, Buchholz), or actively dislikes (Youkilis, Pedroia, Papelbon, Beckett).
