Just as I was thinking he'd miss out, Demario comes back with the #13 spot. Davis is another young guy that can fill a crucial role for us. Year 2 should be a good indicator of his future value with the Jets. Seeing him ranked this high is surprising, but reassuring.
Wow I was not expecting that. I really don't know if he deserves this as of now, but I bet he can take over for Bart Scott and be a great player.
we shouldn't see a drop from scott last year to davis this year. what davis lacks in experience he will make up for in speed.
I also read somewhere that if you take out a bad week 7 against NE, he only missed one tackle all season. Granted he didn't have a lot of snaps, but that's promising. https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2013/03/07/idp-bets-for-breakout-demario-davis/ Good article, I don't know if it's been posted. This is what we're all hoping for, I just really hope it happens.
i think the biggest and most key stat is that he didnt play very much last year. i am not sure why everyone has such a hardon for this kid. lets see how he does when he is actually on the field for any extended period of time. its scary that he is being counted on like he is.
This is the downside of making only 4.6 picks a year between 2007 and 2011. The Jets should have several young linebackers fighting to be the next star back there. Instead they've spent a bunch of picks on the DL and OL the last few years to make up for the deficiencies that the short drafts caused. They've ignored real needs like WR's and TE's because you can only do so much in a couple of years when your drafts were thin for so long.
I'd agree wholeheartedly with you on draft years 2007 / 2008 / 2009 / 2010. Tradeups for D. Harris 2007, D. Keller 2008, and Sanchez 2009, along with a bad 2010 draft with only 4 picks lay the trail to where we are now. 2011 was different, though - Wilkerson, Cromartie (I include him, - technically he was our 2nd rounder), K. Ellis (should show something soon), Kerley was a solid contributing draft.
Time for the riots to begin! #12 is way too high for Sanchez. I know he's one of the most important pieces, but that doesn't mean he's top 12 on the team. He is responsible for tons of our TOs last year. Hmmmmmmmm. Well it is NY Post after all.
List Recap: #25 Josh Bush ( S ) #24 Jeff Cumberland ( TE ) #23 Joe McKnight ( RB / KR ) #22 Mike Goodson ( RB / KR ) #21 Stephen Peterman ( G ) #20 Stephen Hill ( WR ) #19 Bilal Powell ( RB ) #18 Kellen Winslow ( TE ) #17 Willie Colon ( G ) #16 Antwon Barnes ( LB ) #15 Dawan Landry ( S ) #14 Kyle Wilson ( CB ) #13 Demario Davis ( LB ) #12 Mark Sanchez ( QB )
There were a lot of things responsible for our TOs last year. Have to remember Sanchez, as a starter, still has a winning record. There are plenty of teams that cannot say that about their QB. Having a QB who knows how to win games ( even if he is battered mentally ) is more important then the current list that sits above him IMHO. I think most of us can agree that Sanchez has the physical tools to be a good QB, He needs to just figure out the mental aspect and consistency.
I think the remaining (in no order) must be: -Muhammad Wilkerson -Sheldon Richardson -Quinton Coples -David Harris -Antonio Cromartie -Dee Milliner -Nick Mangold -D'Brickashaw Ferguson -Austin Howard -Santonio Holmes -Chris Ivory
Not a bad guess, but you will have to remove Richardson and Milliner. No rookies are included in the list. You also didn't include 2012's leading receiver. My best guess: -Jeremy Kerley -Muhammad Wilkerson -Quinton Coples -David Harris -Antonio Cromartie -Nick Mangold -D'Brickashaw Ferguson -Austin Howard -Santonio Holmes -Chris Ivory -Antonio Garay/Kenrick Ellis/Calvin Pace
He's not counting rookies. Austin Howard is number 11. I'm guessing the top 5, in no order, would be: Wilkerson Cromartie Mangold Ferguson Holmes The next 6-10 would be: Harris Ivory Kerley Coples Ellis (I'm afraid he's gonna be here, considering Demario Davis made it. If not, then maybe Pace.)
Austin Howard was pretty good last year. He ended up panning out, which may have saved the line, since our options were so limited. He's another guy that was good with run blocking but struggled in pass protection. I think he'll get better this year. With that out of the way here's what I think the top 10 will be. 1. Cromartie 2. Wilkerson 3. Mangold 4. Ferguson 5. Harris 6. Coples 7. Holmes 8. Ivory 9. Kerley 10. Ellis or Pace. Can't really put a finger on this one, I don't think either is top 10. Ellis has potential but injuries held him back last year. Pace at least played most of the year. The only person I feel missed the list that should have made it is Ducasse, but I can't see him as top 10. I feel like I'm forgetting somebody crucial. Watch it be somebody out of left field like Haydeen Smith!
Makes more sense, I was surprised about not having Kenrick Ellis on the list. I think it will probably be Ellis and Kerley because Pace and Garay are definitely not top 10.
Yea pro football focus said he improved as the year went on and his run blocking was very impressive. Competition will probably help him too.
My guess/rankings: 1. Cromartie 2. Mangold 3. Wilkerson 4. Brick 5. Holmes 6. Harris 7. Kerley 8. Ivory 9. Coples 10. K Ellis
