Woody has to go. Wayne Hunter is not a backup. He is a starting Right Tackle. Bryan Thomas needs to go, and Pace needs to take a pay cut. We need to keep BOTH WR's. BADLY. If we want to even fuck with Jenkins he must take vet min. Tony Richardson is gone. VGholston obviously. I'd like Sanchez to have the same targets for a couple of years. whom are the FA Kickers?
You have us re-signing almost everyone. Tony Richardson needs to retire and if he decides not to, there's no place for him on our roster anymore. John Conner is ready. Brad Smith will get more than he's worth. He'll more than likely end up on another team. I have a feeling at least two of our rotating safeties will be let go. I'd like to see Ihedigbo stay. I hope to god Eric Smith's not a Jet next season. Wayne Hunter should stay. Rob Turner is a versatile player, but he'll more than likely lose his spot to Vlad Ducasse.
The bolded guys are guys I'd like to see back. Now of the list which are UFA vs RFA? Now my guess is it possible to sign both Holmes and Edwards and Franchise Harris? I'm not all that cap savy but my guess it would be cheaper to do that then franchise one of the WRs or Cromartie.
I agree with this. The Jets have had far worse guys in their secondary. Aaron Beasley and Sam Garnes for example.
Cromartie should not be brought back. Kyle Wilson was drafted to start. Wilson has got to step up and be the starter opposite Revis. I thought Cromartie was going to be a one-season rental.
Probably not...but if we brought back all three, it'd be virtually impossible to upgrade most of the other positions on the roster.
Would love to ditch Cromartie for Nnamdi Asomugha, but that is probably a pipe dream. But realistically, Cromartie can make plays if we get faster on the DL and put more pressure on QB's.
It's irrelevant given that there will be massive changes, especially with the entrance of an 18 game schedule. If you're really interested in knowing our salary, though, you'll have to go research all of our non-FAs and their contracts. Jason hasn't updated yet, but I expect him to do so in the next few days.
Not much of a force?!?!? Did you watch the Jets beat the Pats a week ago? Such short memories. Ellis was a monster in that game, the best player on the team. Some of the crap you can read on these boards can be particularly irritating.
If the money is right, then yeah I like them. However, it all depends on the cap and how much players want. To me of that list priorities are : 1. Edwards 2. Holmes 3. Harris 4. Ihedigbo Brad Smith isn't overly important, but I'd like him back.
he was awesome that game, but that was basically a coverage sack everytime. it took him like 4-5 seconds to get each sack. btw: Fuck the Wildcat/Seminole whatever the fuck it is. If Brad Smith is asking for a dick load of money, because he runs the wildcat...fuck that. I love Brad as a punt blocker, gunner, return man, and 4th string WR. We dont really need the wildcat anymore. I'd rather have Sanchez on the field.
Just because Wilson was drafted for that purpose does not mean he will be ready to start next year. "has got to" - Oh, that means it will happen?
The only thing that may keep Cromartie on the team is the same thing that led to his contract front next year. The only money he's guaranteed to earn this year is a signing bonus. He can negotiate with us prior to the March end of the league year. After that, he can't negotiate with anyone until the new CBA. He's taking a risk on his paternity issues, and he knows that. We could bring him back at a reduced rate, although it's still doubtful. Tanny will wait him out until it's close to year end. At that point, we'll see where the labor negotiations stand and whether Cromartie opts to play it safe.
1) OLB's and Ends: This is probably the biggest weakness on this team. Ellis, Thomas and Taylor are all nearing the end. Devito is fine as a run stuffer but he should not be on the field on passing downs. Pace may be the only outside linebacker thats back next year. The front 7 of this team is the only area that really worries me and I'm confident that Rex/Tanny will rebuild it in 2 off seasons. 2) Safeties: I actually thought that Pool played great in the playoffs and Eric Smith played well too. I would be happy with the three of them as a rotation once Leonhard is healthy. Of course Eric Smith and Pool are both free agents. If they Jets can get an impact safety in the draft I would want to upgrade the position but it doesn't sound like it's a safety heavy draft. 3) Woody's replacement: I think we all have to hope that Vlad is the answer but he looked very raw when he did see action and the pending CBA mess is not going to help his development. Hunter is also a free agent and he may have played well enough to get paid by someone. 4) Inside linebacker: Harris has this shortcomings but he's the foundation of the defense and rex would probably kidnap him before he lets him leave. I don't think this defense will get much better with Harris and Scott. They both struggle covering anyone in space and it causes problems on first and second down. Bart probably has one more year and then they will look to move on. The need a fast linebacker next to Harris who can actually cover someone. I would be shocked if they paid two wide receivers over a middle linebacker. Santonio is still one piss test gone wrong from a year long suspension. I think they focus on Braylon and Harris and let Santonio test the waters. 5) Nose Tackle: If they can find a true 2 gap nose tackle it would make everyone elses job that much easier. Unfortunately these guys don't grow on trees. I know that Rex doesn't run a conventional 3-4 but a true nose tackle would make the rest of the defense even better. I think the Jets need a serious youth movement on the front 7 on defense. The rest of the team is pretty much ready to go with a few changes here and there.
"Has got to"- Tannenbaum drafted a bust if Wilson can't start. That's what I meant. Wilson was drafted to start. He's got to start. He's got to come through. Does this mean he will? Absolutely not.
Obviously a lot of him being brought back would depend on how big of a paycut he is willing to take. I don't think he's going to be one of the guys that we really make a consorted effort to resign. If he comes back my guess is it's for the vet minimum. I know they're not listed but my guess is LT and JT will not be brought back next year either. So it'd be 9-10 million to franchise Harris now what about Holmes or Edwards? I also think Hunter should be brought back, he's going to be inexpensive and he played extremely well for Woody.
I've also seen plenty of evidence the CS are fans of Cro's. The other thing about Cro is that getting him paid dividends, while at least one other FO move in the secondary other than Wilson did not. That would be the move "replacing" Rhodes with Pool, who I think was pretty much a disappointment. I understand that Cro will be asking for more than Pool makes, but given the tenuous state so far of Wilson's development and my preference for going another route at safety than Pool are imo factors that argue for keeping Cro, at the right price, of course.
