The Pats haven't taken a single player from our practice squad, have they? They added Woodhead after we cut him, and that worked out ok for them, and other than that as far as I can remember they've just added free agents.
isn't Mo Wilkerson wearing 96? Not a football coach but i'm guessing that since Rex declared him a starter 3 weeks ago he probably won't go to the PS.
The battle for a WR spot has been pretty hot, and I'm pretty interested to see who makes the final cut. Here's who we've got on the bubble: Logan Payne, Patrick Turner, Scotty McKnight, Mike Campbell, Courtney Smith, Dan DeDPalma. I haven't heard a peep about Scotty Mcknight and I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up on the PS. Being that we drafted him, is he still eligible to be signed by another team?
It's probably a numbers game with the roster, but speaking for myself, I'd love to see him on the 53.
Of course. He hasn't done anything in the preseason, though, so I wouldn't expect another team to pick him up and guarantee him a spot on their active roster for a few weeks.
Considering Rex has him running with the 1st teamers in Pouha's absense, I would say Teveseu is a near-lock to make the team.
I think Gilbert has looked good in the prseason.. he has stood out during his late-game appearances. The problem is that he appears to be pretty low on the depth chart. It is looking more and more likely that Teveseu is going to take a roster spot, so that gives us 3 DT's in him, Pouha, and Ellis. Then at DE, Wilkerson, DeVito, and Pitoitua are clearly ahead of him. And I would guess Marcus Dixon is as well. It will come down to how many D-linemen the coaches are going to keep.
S. McKnight will either be on our practice squad, or the Cheatroits will sign him to mess with Sanchez.
Courtney Smith was cut today. Scotty Mcknight has shown zero that leads me to believe he can play in the NFL right now, thus he is a PS guy or nothing at all. Logan Payne just dislocated his wrist, and will require surgery, so I doubt he makes the active roster, and likely not the PS until he is healed up. Which really leaves this fight to be between Patrick Turner, Mike Campbell and Dan Depalma. Of the three, Turner is the best receiver, but thats not what you need in your #5, you need a ST guy. Remember what Tanny said to Clowney on HK last summer, you want to make this team as a bottom of the depth chart WR, win over coach Westhoff. Clowney never did, and to date, neither has Turner. That said, he has shown plenty of potential as a receiver, enough that maybe the Jets keep him around another year to try and develop his talent and turn him into a contributing wideout for 2012. Campbell has had a good camp, but he dropped the ball in game 1, thats going to end up weighing against him. Plus I don't think he has much more, if any, ST ability than Turner. I think he is currently last in the race for the final WR spot. Which leaves Dan DePalma as the guy I expect makes the final 53. He has been flying around on ST in each of our preseason games, and he has been our acting backup KR and PR guy behind Kerley so far this preseason. It is for this reason, I expect he makes our roster, because Westhoff can and will use him as a ST guy on all coverage units, and possibly as a lead blocker for Kerley on the return units. He may have shown nothing as a WR in the NFL, but Wallace Wright made a pretty damn good living (and became somewhat of a fan favorite) being Mike Westhoff's ST ace in the hole over the years.
Holy fuck, you're Rich Cimini...that's the only other guy I've seen spell Dan's name that way, and in the same order for receivers: http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/jets/post/_/id/6732/roster-analysis-whos-staying-going Guys, ease off the Cimini bashing. He's a poster.
You may be right about Gilbert not being eligible for the Jets' PS. I don't think he'd last on our PS, either, anyway, even if he was eligible. How do you get that the Jets would have to carry 9 DL to keep Gilbert? I count 8: Pouha, DeVito, Wilkerson, K. Ellis., Pitoitua, Dixon, Tevaseau, Gilbert. I certainly wouldn't keep Kroul or Washington over Gilbert. At any rate, I agree that he shouldn't make it over Bellore, but think he should over Emanuel Cook, E. Lankster, and probably even Maybin. They may opt to keep Maybin because of his speed and potential to help the pass rush, whereas the Jets have a lot of talent and depth on the DL. Gilbert blocked that kick vs the Giants. With his leaping ability he'd be a good person to have in the middle of the Jets FG defense special team, so a point could be made for keeping him.
for some reason I was thinking we had another member of our DL rotation ahead of Gilbert. But you're right, I looked again and he would be 8. So I retract and say he probably has a good shot as our last DL. I would expect we keep 8 on each line. possibly 9 on the OL with Turners injury.
If you can really go by what we have seen from Nick Bellore, common football logic combined with the regret for allowing player like Woodhead go would make one think that he would new a lock for the 53 player roster if only for his Special Teams ability.
