Actually, you have to you know, PERFORM in order to give a bad performance. He gave NO performance, not a bad one. The only year he pitched more than 7 games for them he actually wasn't that bad. He had an ERA of 4.77, which is only about a half run higher than his career ERA to that point which was 4.21 pitching for Florida and Montreal. The change from AL to NL accounts for most of that. He only had one full year where his ERA was under 4.00 anyway, so it's not like he was dominant other places and fell apart in NY. Yes, he was but it's because he got paid $27 million for 26 starts. Had he pitched exactly the same way but made 30 starts a year he would have been right in line with an average 4th or 5th starter in both money and performance. He was making $9 million a year which is pretty much the going rate for mediocre starting pitching. And I'm not wearing any glasses. I'm not even a Yankee fan, I'm a Red Sox fan. Randy Johnson was 41 when the Yankees got him, and pitched well his first year in NY. Also, the Yankees didn't sign him to a big contract. He was already signed by Arizona and given a one year extension for $16 million. Hardly one of the biggest ever. Kevin Brown was 39 and also pitched fairly well his first year until he got hurt. The problem with both of these guys was age catching up to them (or just general fragility in Brown's case, though he was no spring chicken), not some mythical pressure that they couldn't handle. Both of these guys had pitched in the World Series. Pressure was NOT the issue. So you think the Yankees have had good pitching coaches for the last several years? Do you even know what a pitching coach does? I'm not saying it's entirely their fault when guys don't pitch well. I AM saying that your claim that some pitchers dominate elsewhere and struggle in NY, if true, is attributable to the pitching coaches more than the "pressure" you want to blame.
Well I guess we agree to disagree then. You and Cappy make some valid points yet I watch the Yankees religiously. They are a different team when they have played Boston this year home or away. They don't look nearly as loose as they have during this great month long run. In fact, the same goes for Tampa Bay too. Yes they beat them 2 out of 3 last weekend yet they also needed to come from behind to win those games late. To me it seems like this current edition of Yanks doesn't respond well to playing Boston and Tampa Bay. Maybe it's what happened last year. I'm not sure. I know I'm diverting from the original topic which was Wang and Burnett. Yet this pressure or whatever you want to call it seems to extend to the whole roster when they've played these two clubs this year.
Total bullshit that both benches get a warning in the top of the first. Way to be a tool for the Sawx blue.
Oh boy. We're going to start with the "even for that time in the past" garbage again? The Yankees would need to hit quite a few Sox to even things out. EDIT: And ARod got hit.
Joba's bullshit? Sox take potshots both literally and figuratively all the time. Joba's bullshit? What? Cmon man if your talking about the shit on the mound how about all the years that fat slob Manny stared at his home runs? If your talking about beaning Youkilis, they've been buzzing Jeter for years.
Things don't get dropped after the game is over. You should know this. So boo frcken hoo a couple of Yanke finally got beaned.
Yeah Jobas bullshit. Has he even gone thru one Yankees / Sox game without beaning or throwing at a Sox hitter yet?
Your really going to complain about Joba throwing at Sox when your whole staff for years has buzzed the Yankees and they haven't done anything about it? One of my main gripes with the last couple of years of the Torre era was the lack of retaliation for a beaning. Good hit Swish.
Haha that wall is a fucking joke. I love how abyssmal the Sox's record is outside of Fenway. Get a real fucking team douchefaggots.
The Yankees haven't been saints. I'm so sick of hearing your sob stories. Especially considering you had Clemens on your team.
