He was listed as the starting goalie until 7:30 PM, and he has been practicing

Penguins' Marc-Andre Fleury out for Game 1 vs. Rangers; Zatkoff starts
By Adam Gretz | Hockey writer

With starting goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury sidelined with his second concussion of the season and not playing for the Pittsburgh Penguins over the final two weeks of the regular season, there was always the possibility that he would not be ready for the start of the playoffs Wednesday night.

Even though Fleury practiced every day this week, including Wednesday
, he will not be available to the Penguins for Game 1 of their first-round playoff series against the New York Rangers.

Starting in his place will be Jeff Zatkoff.

What makes this an especially tough position for the Penguins to be in is the fact Zatkoff is currently their third-string goalie. He is being forced into action because their primary backup, Matt Murray, was injured in the regular-season finale in what was ultimately a meaningless game for the team against the Philadelphia Flyers.

With Fleury and Murray sidelined and Zatkoff forced into the starting lineup, that means the Penguins' backup to start the playoffs is Tristan Jarry, a rookie who has never appeared in an NHL game.

I'm so mad. I remote set my DVR and the game recorded the USA channel and not MSG. I thought I'd get home and avoid internet and anyone that would spoil the game for me. Now I have to go search for video to see what the heck happen to Henrik.

If for some reason you decide to re-watch the beginning, watch it on mute. These announcers are fucking awful.

God I can't wait until Vigneault gets fired this off-season.

Tough game to watch. Seriously, fucking awful.

Announcers probably the worst of any sport ever.
Refs making some of the most questionable calls I've ever seen in hockey.
Staal continues to sabotage the team with his play.
Weak chances on offense (shooting into the stomach or no power at all).
    Raanta plays like ass.

    Really??
    • MSG feed was very pro-Rangers. Can't stand Sam Rosen. The post game show is unwatchable. It's like someone died.
    • 10 PIMS for each team. Seemed pretty even to me. Not only that, Rangers handed gift and huge momentum at the beginning of the second with a 5 on 3 followed by almost 3 mins of 5 on 4. Shorthanded goal was not Refs fault!!
    • Maybe its time to stop trading for old players
    • Rangers had as many good chances as Pens. Couldn't beat a third string goalie.
    • Boo Fing Hoo regarding the Lundquist injury! The Rangers have played back up goalies for all or part of almost every playoff series the past two seasons. They played a 3rd string goalie tonight. Rangers have no right to whine about Lundquist injury and having to play their back up. When is Kreider going to take a run at the Pens goalie like he does in every playoff series???

    • I don't get MSG in South Jersey. And while they are very much one-sided, the Penguins announcers sound like they'd blow the entire Pittsburgh team in Times Square given the option.
    • PIMS is not a valid argument for fairness of calls. Stalbergs first two penalties? Complete bullshit. Staal's interference? Bullshit. Moore's penalty? Even more bullshit. Kreider's interference penalty was the only legit penalty call against the Rangers. Meanwhile, Hagelin earned his double minor penalty as did Cole on that same play. Fehr gave Lundqvist a snowshower which is a deserved penalty. Nash was swept in the legs by Daley. Fact is, one team had a bunch of phantom calls made against them and the other didn't.
    • Agreed.
    • Pens defense made it easy for their goalie. Zatkoff made very few tough saves. Just made some easy ones look tough. He did the minimum to not fuck it up.
    • Rangers have every right to get upset when their goalie gets hurt as would any other team.

The dumb cunt behind the bench calls out Yandle for one play but keeps his mouth shut for years when it comes to Girardi and Staal. What an absolute fucking joke. Either he's too much of a pussy to call out players that are "leaders" in the room, or he just doesn't have an understanding of the game.

Fun stats: Rangers are 1-5 when Peel was a ref in their games and Pens are now 5-0

It can't possibly be that the Pens are just a better team that outplayed the Rags? Why can't Rags fans just accept a playoff loss for what it is without blaming the officials??? Next comes the injuries complaint.

Why can't the Pens win without the refs help? Past two years, they didn't seem to fair well when the refs called honest games.

Hope Lundqvist is okay. Tough Game 1. Crosby another wide open goal like he had last week against the Caps. Don't know how he keeps getting that open.
