How is it possible... it is UNCONSCIONABLE to me, that the best they could get for Talbot was three late-round draft picks. If that TRULY was the best you could get, you hang on to Talbot, and trade him closer to the trade deadline, when a potential playoff team might bite. Disgraceful job by Sather. He needs to go.
yeah I'd like to hear more about why he couldn't get more in return. Cambot has the potential to be a top 10 goalie and there's a big shortage of good goalies on the market, but I think the most limiting factor is that he's only locked up for 1 year and then becomes a free agent. So it's almost like a rental unless you can get him to sign an extension right away. It's possible the offers weren't as good as we were led to believe. Slats went the route of restocking the minor league system. I can only hope that Gorton identified these guys and that they'll turn into solid prospects that can be used as trade bait or actually come up through the system and contribute to the Rangers
We still have an HUGE gap at the center position. Even if you want to remain in denial about the lack goal scoring form our centers, how can you deny how putrid this team is on faceoff percentage?
Would really like Vermette because he was stellar on faceoffs and he is a center. But the cap dude...Stepan is also going to get a $6M deal. We will need to trade Klein and Glass
Sather's last hurrah: moves Klein and Glass for futures, plays hardball with the young RFAs getting them under $1M each, gets Stepan at a hair under $6M, and uses every inch of cap room left to sign Justin Williams. Unlikely, but wouldn't be shocked. Maybe go back to Florida and revisit interest in J. Hayes. Klein for Hayes. I don't even like Jimmy as much as his brother and find he's being overrated but he has some positive traits the team lacks and straight up for Klein would be a homerun. Nash-Brassard-Zucc Kreider-Stepan-J.Hayes Miller-K.Hayes-Etem Lindberg-Moore-Fast. That's the best lineup they've had during this run. And if the Williams thing could possibly happen, that lineup, forget about it.
I heard Sather passed on a late first rounder for Talbot.......not sure what else he thought he was gonna get....Talbot fucked us when we let him talk to other teams when he said he definitely wants to hit FA market next year. Some of you like Hack and MR had a VERY poor handle on what the market might be for Talbot----like some of that retarded talk about getting 23 year old star centers hahahah-that said, Sather prolly called a couple bluffs, and lost. it happens. Shoulda taken the late first
So, I stand by my earlier statement: if three LATE ROUND draft picks are the best you could get for Talbot, then keep him on the squad. Best case scenario, you trade to a desperate team prior to the deadline who needs a goaltender, best case, you have a premier backup for one more season.
For the life of me, I can not understand how the same people who acknowledge this team is weak at the Center position is so anxious to give Derek Stepan 6M. Here's a though: Let him walk, and get yourself a center who scores 10 pts less per game, but can actually win the majority of his faceoffs? You can get that for a lot less than 6M.
meh.......what would you get for Talbot at the deadline to a team, im assuming that is borderline playoff contender.....acquiring a goalie who has played 10 games at that point and wont be back the following season. 3 picks would probably be better than what we'd get at the deadline
They made a trade for a goalie from the Blackhawks. Their 3rd string goalie but with a good NHL record. Here is an article from the Suns Times giving the Chicago POV on the deal. http://chicago.suntimes.com/sports/7/71/726452/blackhawks-trade-goalie-antti-raanta-new-york-rangers. As for dealing Hagelin. It was another money deal but I liked the guy. He went to a good place. I went to a Ducks game when I was in Cali in Dec. Against the Oilers but the place was packed and the fans really into it. Not like ours but a good crowd. I guess Slats thought that Raanta was pretty equivalent to Talbot. Kind of a wash.
Faceoffs are glorified board battles, have little to no effect on possession or scoring, and are incredibly overrated. And I'm not going to get into this debate with you again. You think the team is very weak at center, I don't.
They got offered Jimmy Hayes for Talbot, so they did get offered a good player and the moron turned it down
