You need to watch more hockey. Here are the seven players who finished ahead of McDonagh - Keith, Chara, Weber, Suter. Pietrangelo, Doughty, Karlsson

Do you seriously think McDonough is better than any of those 7 players? Do you think the GM of any of the teams with those 7 players would even think of trading any of those players one up for McDonough?????

You're damned right he had a better 2013-2014 season than Chara. This is NOT a lifetime achievement award.

Absolutely ridiculous. The Rangers offered him 5/6.25M per year. What a joke this guy is. Captain Coin.

When he returns to MSG, I am going to be chanting "Where's your money?"

The voting for these awards is always complete shit. The writers just vote for the player on their local team and the other guys around the league who they hear about a lot. Its not like there is a panel that watches every game, and analyzes all these players.

You'd make your point better if you had just asked if McDonagh had a better season than any of those guys. If we were to consider whether GM's would rather have their player or McDonagh, at least half of those GM's would consider trading their player for McDonagh.

Duncan Keith is 30, Chara is 37, Weber will turn 29 in two months and Suter is 29. McDonagh just turned 25 a few weeks ago. McDonagh is definitely a better asset than any of those guys, and it has nothing to do with whether or not he is a better hockey player than any of those guys right now.

McDonagh, Pietrangelo, Doughty and Karlsson are all around the same age. I don't think there is much of a difference in ability between McDonagh, Pietrangelo and Doughty. Doughty gets more praise, but thats because he has two cups and the other two guys don't have any. All three are decent offensively, but very good defensively. I think that is what separates all three of these players from Erik Karlsson and PK Subban. Karlsson and Subban put up a ton of points, but they aren't anywhere near as good defensively as McDonagh, Pietrangelo and Doughty. You might have a different criteria for best, but the defensive mistakes are what is holding me back from putting Karlsson and Subban in the category of the players that I consider to be among the best defenseman in the league.

I'll give some applause and thank you type cheers when he first takes the ice, and then he's just another opponent after that. I don't plan on ever booing him unless of course he goes Prust on us

Anyone who boos him is being pretty disgraceful

Actually, he only gave 82% of himself if you take in to consideration how much time he missed due to injury over those years.

I will absolutely boo any player/captain who says "My first priority is to remain a New York Ranger", and then tries to hold the team hostage for 48M over 6 years. His first priority was getting paid, which I have no problem with it. But you can't have it both ways.... you can't be the martyr and extort a team at the same time.

Giving Nikitin 4.5m is even more confusing.

Dorsett traded for the 85th overall pick to the Canucks. I see the logic, we have Carcillo and he's a similar player. We also have a few bangers in the minors that could play that role if we needed I'm sure.

With today's rumblings that the cap will probably be even lower than expected, they really need to clear out some money to have a shot at re-signing their guys. Dorsett is a 4th liner making $1.6M. Unfortunately, he's not a luxury they can afford right now.

    Smart asset management.
