So....everywhere I turn its "no matter who the Rangers play, they will not win..and be a heavy underdog". Hmm....why is that we ask.

Many of us Jet fans remember back when the Jets needed to beat the Colts, who at the time were undefeated...but announced they would pull Manning no matter what. Manning was pulled...and bam...Jets stormed back and beat them..made the playoffs...and many of us believe this is where the whole REAL fight between the Jets and FATSO on the fan really started.

Fatso was fuming after the game because Rex said he really believed that Jets would win regardless. What was Rex supposed to say?

Ok...where the hell am I going with this. How many Jet fans really believed they would have won that game anyway? I mean...come on..deep down inside. I for one, thought they had no shot of winning that game. Many of us thought their 2 runs to the AFC championship were very fortunate runs and that there would be no getting to the Superbowl but we all said...hey...YOU NEVER KNOW RIGHT?

The reason I bring that up is that this run the Rangers are on...this improbable run....we read how everything has fallen into the Rangers lap. We read how the Flyers were the worst team in the entire playoffs. How the Penguins were prime to be taken down. The Canadians were one of the weaker teams to get to the conference finals. Lets face it, if you go by the media...the experts...there are a ton of similarities with the Jet runs and the Ranger runs.

To top it all off, we are being drilled with the incredible supremacy of the Western Conference. Only the Bruins had the talent to even give any of the top Western Conference teams a run for their money.

So the big question is this...are the Rangers on a Cinderella run or are they truly now..a very good hockey team with actual talent..real talent.

Lets open this up and hear from all and see if we agree on some things. I really believe NOW..that this is no longer a Cinderella run. That this team is not going to be dominated by either Western Conference team. I think the Rangers top 4 defensemen are better then both teams top 4. Goaltending? While kudos galore for what he has done in the past this time of the year can be thrown Quicks way, lets face it, anyone arguing that the King is the best out of all 3 goalies still alive for the Cup wouldn't be a homer....it has merit...no doubt.

So that leaves us with the forwards...and with all the talk about the Rangers Cinderella story..this would leave us to believe that both teams forwards are much better then the Ranger forwards. I would guess on paper that would be correct. Reminds me of the Yanks hitting 250 homers during the regular season but come playoff time...pitching wins out.

So are the Ranger forwards ...the PLAYOFF Ranger forwards...so much worse then both the Hawks and the Kings? Again...on paper I get it...but in my opinion..being a really negative Jet/Ranger fan for many years...I don't see any reason the Rangers are not a push against either team the way this team is playing right now.

I don't see any rabbits being pulled out of hats....I don't see guys that couldn't score a goal all year with 12 playoff goals. I just don't see the Cinderella story..not at all.

So...looking forward to hearing some feedback from you guys on whether this is a Cinderella story...or 18 very solid hockey players playing great as a team right now.

Waitaseckond. You're a fan of Boston's hockey team (wish misery to NY Ranger fans), you like Boston's baseball team and Fenway (over the NY Yankees)…clear pattern here….hmmm, you prolly like friggin' 'baked beans' over DiFara's pizza…

Sorry but because of his Injuries he didn't play long enough to be the greatest ever, best dman definitely, I still gravitate to Gretzsky...by the way your negativity about the Rangers makes me want you to go back to Jets Insider....just kidding! LGR!

This. #99 ftw. Bobby Orr did have one really good tip in his book regarding 'breaking in' a new pair of skates: wear them in a hot bath.

When they were leather (dating myself), I wore my CCM Super Tacks into the bath tub….the hot water would eventually serve to soften up the leather and allow the skate to 'mold' around my foot making for a tighter fit (much like a punting shoe in football).

Matt, Jet Insider?!! JS with his 'Boston this/Boston that' preferences sounds like www.Patsfans.com material

Mets Jets Nets Devils, hate the Yankees, Giants, Knicks and Rangers. Hate the Pats more than any other team.

Was a massive Bruin fan as a kid, idolized Bobby Orr and Phil Esposito and patterned my playing style after Gilles Gilbert (although I always loved Eddie Giacomin-I remember my Mom crying watching when he came back to the Garden as a Wing and he got that massive heartfelt ovation) and I was a big fan of Yaz, Rico Petrocelli and Tony Conigliaro as a kid (and my HS baseball uniform was based on the Sox) and that park and that fan base is just something special.

So as my second favorite team in those two sports, I'll root for the Bruins and the Sox but I don't avidly follow them anymore.

Only worked on the true kangaroo leather skates! Once I got my white shelled Bauer Supreme goalie skates (thanks to Bernie Parent), most of the materials were synthetic. I think Lange started that whole thing.

I still have most of my equipment from college, just not my Cooper GP95 leg pads- horsehair on the inside got devoured by bugs.

True, injuries were his downfall and as great as The Great One is, Orr could do everything Gretzky could and more. Plus he was a tough SOB and could fight with the best of them. Next fight Gretzky has will be his first.

Shoot, pass (not as good as Gretzky I'll give you that), skate, hit, defend, lead, for too short of a period the guy was the best.

    There it is!!…..the tell-tale heart!!!

    ;)

on-topic: Blackhawks refuse to die. Crawford picking up his game (his and Shaw's clown attempt at the 2nd intermission to get into Quick's head notwithstanding) …..maybe LA even with Quick in goal is the preferred opponent at this stage?

Anyway, I hope their game 7 goes 6 OTs.

I think Ranger fans should be rooting for Chicago. The one big advantage the Rangers have is The King and I think Quick makes that about even and LA is a better all around team otherwise.

I agree that Hank's (and Quick) are better than Crawford, but whatever you may think of LA being the better overall team, I am verry leery about having to contend with Kane especially now that he looks like he's coming out of his goal scoring funk (our good 4th line play aside).

Kane is phenomenal. I think he's the best player in hockey frankly, better than that shit-eating Crosby.

That said, we can roll out a defensive shutdown pair in McD and Girardi to take out the Kane line and a damn good Staal-Stralman pair to control the Toews-Sharp line. We have the horses to contain their firepower. Quick though, if he's on there's nothing we can do.

I agree with the sentiment that the Rangers aren't being given enough credit. We may not have a hot scorer but we're sound defensively and we roll four lines. That's HUGE. We can roll four lines which allows our speed guys like Hagelin and Kreider to remain at 100% effectiveness the length of the game. That's how we beat the Habs, by late in the game they were out of gas because they only had two quality lines, we had four.

Moreover, if Nash wakes the fuck up( and Jesus it's the Cup, if there were ever a time to see that possessed Nash that we saw vs. Columbus it'd be now) there's your dominant scorer.

    And we have the King.

So yeah, I think we have a shot regardless of who we play. I hope it's Chicago though.

Chicago has played an insane amount of hockey in the last year and a half. They are completely gassed. Not to mention they're simply a better matchup for the Rangers, anyway.

Anyone want to buy custom Rangers jersey or of a player (white only) it appears Shop.NHL.com has made a mistake and listed these for $63 bucks...These are going for $199 throughout the site...NHL.com has always honored these orders after they fix it. A bunch of folks on HF Boards have bought them, myself included (got a custom personal and a Lundqvist)

    http://shop.nhl.com/New_York_Ranger...bok_2014_NHL_Stanley_Cup_Premier_White_Jersey

also for free shipping use promo code: NHLFAN1

I'd jump on it if you guys want a good deal, these will come with the Stanley Cup patch i think too

Please don't start with the Crosby defense, please. The guy does not play defense, does not fight in the corners for pucks, makes terrible passes anytime anyone comes near him, because he is afraid of getting hit.

Malkin is the better player on that team, I agree that Crosby is a skilled offensive player but he is one dimensional, and that does not make you great unless you were putting up 50 to 60 goals a year.

Kane is the better all around player and if I were starting a team there are 10 players I would select before Crosby, and ovechkin would be in the top three with Kane.

That being said, I don't think the Rangers match up well against either team, defensively the kings and hawks can roll out a deep defensive pairing, both teams are deep offensively and that's where the difference will be.

I'm still rooting for the Rangers though.

Crosby takes away from his greatness by being a crybaby/diver...I have no respect for him
