2 breakaways, a screened shot, and a penalty shot? Maybe one of those was Biron's fault. The defense played like dick the first period. Thats why it's 4-1.
Oh no, Hank would have stopped at least one of those breakaways for sure, but those aren't situations where its the goalies fault. Lets call a spade a spade, Biron is a quality backup. Human Sieve is a bit harsh, the dude's won ten games.
We were due a letdown. Hangover from that crazy 4-day streak. A loss like this will keep us honest. Not all bad:wink:
nor do we want to (realistically) I was getting worried they were getting cocky. Torts will set em straight. Still up 9 games
well he did the same thing with Buffalo and the Devils and everyone was killing him for it. It's fine. We need Henrik fresh for the playoffs anyway, the more rest we can give him now the better.
I thought they would let him play tonight and let Biron play against Columbus...but whatever no big deal
Biron hasn't looked all that good in the second half of the season but let's be honest, a loss in a few of his starts down the stretch for a more rested Hank in the playoffs is probably a fair price to pay. As for last night, I can't say I was shocked. Besides goaltending, the Hawks have top flight talent in every part of their game. They're just on a hideous streak. It was bound to happen to the Rangers eventually. And for anyone who caught what Mike Keenan said during the intermission about getting the doors blown off early, I tend to agree. The Rangers haven't been "embarassed" so to speak all year. It's good they had a bit of a humbling loss, and doesn't hurt they rebound against the worst team in hockey.
Don't get me wrong, if the Lincoln Tunnel was the size of Biron's five hole last night I'd be home from work at 15 minutes every night. But even if Hank played, it had a lot more to do with how poor the Rangers played in front of their goaltender than Biron giving up some cupcakes. I know some of you guys are saying "Hank would've stopped at least x-amount of those breakaways." I mean, hah there's no way of knowing that. Obviously he's the better goaltender but a breakaway is a crapshoot. Oh well. On to Sunday.
Andrew Gross @AGrossRecord Details Regarding first-period 4-minute PP for Rangers, Torts explains penalized team has option of accepting 2-minute 5 on 3 or 4-minute 5-on-4. What a stupid rule, Rangers should have had a 5 on 3 for 2 minutes....
