Of the names being discussed, my order would probably be

    Eakins
    Tippett
    Boucher
    Vigneault
    Ruff
    Messier

Just getting a coach that will give the team freedom on defensive zone breakouts will be enough to appease me for this season, even if it's someone like Ruff. I think McDonagh will be in the Norris conversation if we hire a coach that trusts him to make his own decisions on the ice.

It would explain why he didn't set the tone this year the same way he has in the past. Sucks that him and Hagelin probably won't be completely 100% until well after the season starts.

All good choices, after Eakins...:)..McD, Moore, Mdz would be given a chance to carry the puck end to end ala Sergei Zubov, Mcd with offense added to his game can become a Norris Trophy candidate

4 full months till season starts, I had a feeling something was wrong with him, and yet he buried Erskine with that same shoulder, what a beast...

I don't know about that. He certainly knows how to coach a power play, but nothing else about him screams anything more than mediocre to me. It's not that hard to out-strategize Tortorella during a game, and I don't really think he did. Not as well as Boudreau or even Hunter did, imo.

I think he is still coaching the London Knights. He would not be a great fit for the Rangers though, as he focuses on defense. I think Oates would be the perfect mix to get the Rangers over the hump and allow Henrik to hoist the Cup finally.

Strategy means nothing when your team is filled with a bunch of heartless, lazy, players who don't care.

Same as Torts, although he did a great job with Caps last year, I think Oates will be an excellent coach was always a very smart player

Still early in his coaching career, but you're right about the PP, it was amazing

Your Captain needs a heart transplant, because I really believe when he wants to be he is the best player in the league

Every time someone makes this argument in support of a potential coach, I feel compelled to say the words "Gretzky" and "Phoenix".

now Gretzky is interested in the job. this could turn into a pretty good circus
to pass the time until hockey starts again.
